The LGBTQ+ Danger Index 2019 is a comprehensive survey that ranks the safest and least safe countries for tourists in general and LGBTQ+ travelers in particular.
This particular ranking was done by Asher & Lyric - a website that promotes health and safety advice for international travelers. This list is based on a variety of factors, including: legalized same-sex marriage, protections for the LGBTQ+ community, anti-discrimination laws, criminalization of crimes and recognition of adoption rights, etc.

According to the index, Sweden is currently the most LGBTQ+ friendly country in the world, with a total score of 322, topping the list. Canada is second with a total score of 309, followed by Norway (307), Portugal (306) and Belgium (301). Vietnam also appears on this list at position 72 out of 150 countries with 30 points.

Sweden's top spot is not too surprising, as it was the first country in the world to allow individuals to legally change their gender in 1972. By 2009, Sweden became the seventh country in the world to legalize same-sex marriage.
The International LGBTQ+ Travel Association (IGLTA) – an online network of hotels, transport, tourist boards, tour companies, and travel agencies with over 80 countries worldwide – also considers Sweden to be one of the best countries for LGBTQ+ travelers.

As of now, 27 countries have enacted marriage equality for the LGBTQ+ community and 11 countries provide civil unions to protect this community.
Countries with marriage equality laws are often great destinations for LGBTQ+ vacations, but the International LGBTQ+ Travel Association still recommends that members of the community do their research before traveling to ensure a safe and happy vacation.
