Denmark's capital Copenhagen recently topped a survey of the best cities for work-life balance by holiday search site holiday.co.uk.
Copenhagen residents get more rest and work fewer hours per year on average than most other cities in the world.
Copenhagen comes out on top with the lowest average annual hours worked. Most people here work just 1,380 hours a year, unlike Singapore, where people work an average of 2,330 hours a year.
Copenhagen also scores highly for happiness and health, scoring 8 out of 10 overall in the index. People in the Scandi capital are also well-rested, with an average of almost 9 hours of sleep a night, just one place lower than the Portuguese.
Overall, European cities scored highly on the work-life balance index, taking the top 32 spots. The ranking is based on a variety of factors, including: working hours, commute times, paid vacations, average hours of sleep per night, annual trips, happiness levels and personal income levels.
In the UK, Edinburgh is rated as having the best work-life balance due to its high disposable income score. Furthermore, Edinburgh is among the UK's most liveable cities for expats. Meanwhile, Australia's Adelaide is the highest-ranked city outside Europe, coming in at 33rd on the list.

Neighbouring Glasgow was the second highest-ranked UK city at 41, while Manchester, Liverpool and London also made the top 50.
In Canada, Edmonton leads the way at 51st place. While in the US, Las Vegas tops the state rankings at 71st place.
Hong Kong people take the most trips annually with an average of 12 trips
Peruvian cities rank highest for paid annual leave with 42 days per year, while Zurich residents have the highest disposable income in the world.
Klagenfurt, Austria, has the shortest commute time of any city, at just 9 minutes. In contrast, San Jose, Costa Rica, has a daily commute of just over an hour.

And when it comes to travel, Hong Kong ranks highest. Despite its low overall ranking, the Asian city has residents who take an average of 12 trips a year.
Middle Eastern countries were largely absent from the survey results. Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Beirut and Kuwait were initially included but were later removed because it was not possible to verify complete data for each location.
