The Painting Exhibition “Alo 1981” is an exhibition that brings together a group of 7 artists born in the year of the “rooster”. They did not study in the same school, in the same class, from the same hometown, or grow up together, nor did they use the same materials and expressive language, but they share a passion for art and always strive to renew themselves.
Visitors to the exhibition
7 artists born in 1981 with 7 materials and 7 styles bring their latest works on a brilliant late autumn day as a confession and affirmation of their relentless efforts on the artistic path.
"Landscape 02" lacquer painting on canvas by artist Cuong Chu
Cuong Chu has been passionate about landscapes and traditional lacquer materials since his student years. His works often depict poetic, wild, simple but very attractive and majestic images of nature.
"Nameless 01" artwork with mixed media by artist Bui Hoang Duong
Bui Hoang Duong shared: “Based on the story of the epic poem De dat de nuoc of the Muong people, I separated this painting to talk about the shamans who use spells in rituals. These are solemn rituals of building a new house, funerals, digging wells, cooking... the use of characters on the painting are symbolic of that event. The nature of spells is not to harm people but they are methods to pray for peace.”
"Untitled 02" composite painting on canvas by Nguyen Duong
For Nguyen Duong, the abstract style with strong color blocks expresses his thoughts on each person's identity and life amidst struggles and choices.
"Fish Life" synthetic material by Vuong Duy Khoi
According to Vuong Duy Khoi, the living environment directly affects human life and all things: “When I passed a polluted river with rotting dead fish and fish struggling between life and death, I thought of humans. Life is so short, if we are not conscious and only contain greed, selfishness... then we are no different from the fish gasping for breath in that dead river."
Ceramic artwork "Nude 05" by Le Minh Duc
Le Minh Duc brings a new experience when displaying ceramic installations. He said: “When I finish a work, it speaks for itself, and I am the one who enjoys it, thinking about it in a different way than before.”
"Spring Sunshine" lacquer painting on fabric by Nguyen The Hung
As for Nguyen The Hung, he has been practicing and exploring lacquer on canvas for many years. He brings his deep humanistic contemplations: “Have you ever wondered how a tree grows? They are born from seeds floating in the air, in moist soil, they germinate and develop thanks to the warm light of the sun, nutrients from the soil and water, day by day, month by month, year by year, they grow and develop with deep roots, the trunk grows bigger with big branches and full of layers of flowers and fruits… I paint and develop my paintings over time with my own experiences and changes from emotions to psychology".
"Portrait 03" lacquer carving by Pham Tuan Tu
Finally, Pham Tuan Tu, according to him, "Here, flowers bloom, a new life seems to begin. The self is inherently fragmented according to seasonal emotions, each season has a different state of change, but creates the rhythm of life. I hope that a season of flowers of life will bloom at the same time, that tomorrow will have a good season for my life."
