This year, instead of fireworks, Ho Chi Minh City organized a hot air balloon display along the Saigon River, carrying the national flag, on the occasion of Vietnam's National Day on September 2nd. From 7 a.m. onwards, thousands of people flocked to the Bach Dang Wharf area (District 1) to watch the balloon launch celebrating "Independence Day".
On the other side of the river, thousands of people flocked to the Thu Thiem urban area to admire the giant flag fluttering in the sky over Ho Chi Minh City, celebrating Independence Day in an atmosphere of excitement.

At 7:30 AM, the Vietnamese flag was hoisted high into the sky above Ho Chi Minh City by hot air balloons. This was the first time Ho Chi Minh City had organized a large-scale flag-raising ceremony to celebrate National Day. Thirteen hot air balloons participated in the event, with two main balloons pulling the flag and eleven supporting balloons below. Smaller balloons assisted in raising the flag. Due to complex and constantly changing wind conditions, the flag-raising process faced considerable difficulties.

As part of the "Independence Day" festival, in addition to the two largest hot air balloons used to tow the national flag, eight smaller hot air balloons will be released into the sky over Ho Chi Minh City. These smaller balloons will be released at the same time as the two hot air balloons towing the national flag.
In addition to the flag-raising ceremony on the Saigon River, Ho Chi Minh City also organized art performances in Thu Duc City and districts 12, Binh Tan, Tan Phu, Binh Chanh, Hoc Mon, Cu Chi, Nha Be, and Can Gio on September 1-2. Furthermore, from August 19 to September 4, an exhibition commemorating major holidays was held at the President Ho Chi Minh Monument Park and on Nguyen Hue Street and Dong Khoi Street (opposite Chi Lang Park)...

In 2021, Ho Chi Minh City canceled fireworks displays four times on April 30th, September 2nd, New Year's Day, and Lunar New Year to limit large gatherings amidst the COVID-19 outbreak. Fireworks displays resumed on April 30th, 2022.
