Snow season in Korea usually appears around the end of November or the beginning of December. In particular, for people here, the first snow of the season is not simply a weather phenomenon but also has meaning in spiritual life. Many people believe that the first snow of the season is also the time when Korean people pray with the hope that their wishes will come true.

Having lived and worked in Korea for 5 years, Pham Trong Nghia (33 years old, Quang Ngai) has fallen in love with the scenery of the land of kimchi from summer to winter: “In Korea, all four seasons are beautiful, but winter always has its own characteristics. I am a Vietnamese who has never seen snow before, so when I go to Korea on snowy days, I am very excited. Therefore, whenever it snows and I have free time, I will go take pictures and cannot stay at home because I am very excited.”
Not only admiring the enchanting scenery of Korea when winter comes, Trong Nghia cherishes the plan to capture moments of all the places he has visited. Big cities, already famous for their blend of modernity and tradition, become even more mysterious when the streets are covered in a layer of pure white snow. Peaceful countryside areas also have a unique beauty when snow covers all the roads. In particular, the image of mountains, valleys and pine forests creates a beautiful scene that visitors will never forget.
The snowy season in Korea creates a wonderful picture with the snow gently covering the roofs or grass fields. The soft light from the snow reflects, adding to the dreamy beauty of the scene. One of the places to conquer the “white snow dream” that left Trong Nghia with the most impressive memories is Deokyusan Mountain. Deokyusan Mountain, also known as Deokyu Mountain, is one of the highest mountains in Korea. This mountain is not only a famous tourist destination with wonderful natural beauty but also attracts climbers and tourists who want to experience the quiet, majestic atmosphere of the Korean mountains.

When winter comes, Deokyusan Mountain is covered in white snow, creating a wonderful and majestic scene.
According to Trong Nghia, he and his friend had arrived at Deokyusan Mountain the previous afternoon but were unable to take good photos due to the lack of snow. That night, the two decided to rent a room to sleep and determined to conquer the snowy mountain the next day. However, early in the morning of the next day, Deokyusan Mountain had a big snowstorm with the temperature at that time being around -25 degrees Celsius. Despite being well-equipped with protective gear, Trong Nghia still suffered from frostbite due to the harsh weather. Due to the snowstorm being so big, he even had to hug a tree trunk to keep his center of gravity from being knocked down by the wind.
“At around 12 o’clock, the sky was still foggy, gloomy and windy, so I decided to go down the mountain. However, 15 minutes after I decided to go down, the sun started to shine and the clouds cleared away. Within half an hour, I took many beautiful photos of Deokyusan Mountain with both white snow and light sunshine. The journey of self-torture due to the extremely cold weather is something I will always remember,” Trong Nghia confided.

In Korea, the temperature when it snows is usually around minus degrees Celsius. During the cold winter months, the temperature usually ranges from -10 degrees Celsius to 0 degrees Celsius and can be lower in the high mountains. This drop in temperature creates conditions for heavy snowfall, making the winter scenery more poetic and lyrical than ever.
To enjoy the "winter love song" of Korea, Trong Nghia advises tourists to be carefully and meticulously prepared, especially in terms of clothing. To make your trip more complete and memorable, the prepared clothing needs to be very warm due to the special weather conditions. The clothes should be made of leather, fur, wool, cotton, and down jackets to keep your body warm. Tourists need to buy thermal clothes to wear inside, and windproof and waterproof jackets to avoid snow from getting their clothes wet. Accessories that cannot be missed include scarves, gloves, socks, masks, etc. For tourists climbing snow mountains, they should prepare spiked shoes and anti-slip sticks.
