Spaniards are renowned for their passion for food. They are especially proud to share this passion with others, because for Spaniards, food isn't an experience if it's not shared with friends. Therefore, "World Tapa Day" is a precious opportunity for Spaniards to share a glimpse of Spanish culinary culture with their Vietnamese friends through an engaging cultural event.
What is a tapa? Tapas, which means "dish" in English, refers to small portions of food served with drinks. In Spain, when you order a drink at a bar, they'll offer you a small tapa to eat alongside it. Legend says that King Alfonso X in the 13th century started this tradition when he ordered all bars to include a small piece of food with wine to prevent customers from getting drunk. Therefore, bars began serving wine with a slice of bread topped with ham or cheese, placed over the rim of the glass like a lid. And that's how tapas came into existence.

That tradition still exists today. Going out for tapas or visiting bars and restaurants is one of the favorite pastimes of Spanish families and groups.
To celebrate "World Tapa Day," Spanish and Mediterranean restaurants will be offering a "One glass of wine, one tapa" promotion with special prices and attractive prizes for diners. As part of this important cultural event, online competitions such as "Video of a tapa recipe," "Most unique tapa photo," and an online quiz about Spanish cuisine will also be held.
In Ho Chi Minh City, you can redeem your Spanish Tapa Passport at any participating restaurant, including: Fresh Catch Vietnam, Gaudi Tapas & Bar, Mekong Merchant Saigon, Lubu, Olé Saigon Restaurant, Rịa Sangría & Tapas, Shri Restaurant & Lounge, Tapas Kitchen Caravelle, Tomatito Saigon, and Octo Tapas Restobar. Even better, each time you take a tapa at a different restaurant, you'll receive a stamp. Those who complete the stamp page with the stamps of 10 participating restaurants will be entered into a raffle to win a flight to Madrid or Barcelona (Spain).
