The Airbus A350 XWB is a family of long-haul, wide-body, twin-engine airliners developed by the aircraft manufacturer Airbus. The A350 is the first generation of Airbus aircraft to use carbon fiber reinforced polymer materials for both the fuselage and wings. The A350 is capable of carrying 250 to 350 passengers in a three-class configuration, and can serve a maximum of 440 passengers, depending on the type. The A350 was born to succeed the A330 and A340 families, becoming a competitor of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and the Boeing 777 family.
As of December 2013, Airbus had received orders for 812 aircraft from 39 customers worldwide. The A350 prototype made its first test flight on June 14, 2013, from Toulouse, France. The A350 received certification from the European Aviation Safety Agency in September 2014 and the FAA two months later. The first A350 was delivered to Qatar Airways in December 2014, followed by Vietnam Airlines in July 2015. Vietnam Airlines is the first airline in Southeast Asia to operate the new generation wide-body Airbus A350-900.
Receiving a full set of 14 Airbus A350-900 aircraft is an important part of Vietnam Airlines' plan to develop and expand its new generation fleet on the path to becoming a 5-star international airline in the near future.
