The launch ceremony for Vietnam Airlines' 14th Airbus A350-900 took place in the presence of the Chairwoman of the Vietnamese National Assembly, Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, and delegates from the high-level delegation of the Vietnamese National Assembly. The 14th Airbus A350-900, bearing the registration number VN-A899, will contribute to completing Vietnam Airlines' wide-body fleet, part of an important plan to develop and expand its new generation fleet on its path to becoming a 5-star international airline in the near future.
Mr. Duong Tri Thanh, General Director of Vietnam Airlines, stated: “The number of Airbus-manufactured aircraft currently operated by Vietnam Airlines accounts for nearly 90% of our fleet. This figure demonstrates Airbus's significant contribution to Vietnam Airlines' success, and also opens up many promising prospects for future cooperation with newer, more modern aircraft models that suit the airline's development needs.”

The Airbus A350 XWB is a long-haul, wide-cab, twin-engine passenger aircraft developed by Airbus. The A350 was the first generation of Airbus aircraft to use carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CRP) for both its fuselage and wings. The A350 has a passenger capacity of 250 to 350 passengers in three cabins, and can accommodate up to 440 passengers, depending on the class. The A350 succeeded the A330 and A340, becoming a competitor to the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and the Boeing 777.
As of December 2013, Airbus had received orders for 812 aircraft from 39 customers worldwide. The prototype A350 made its maiden flight on June 14, 2013, from Toulouse, France. The A350 received certification from the European Aviation Safety Agency in September 2014 and from the FAA two months later. The first A350 was delivered to Qatar Airways in December 2014, followed by Vietnam Airlines in July 2015. Thus, Vietnam Airlines became the first airline in Southeast Asia to operate the new generation Airbus A350-900 wide-body aircraft.
The acquisition of the complete fleet of 14 Airbus A350-900 aircraft is a significant step in Vietnam Airlines' plan to develop and expand its next-generation fleet, on its path to becoming a 5-star international airline in the near future.
Vietnam Airlines' Airbus A350-900 fleet is now in operation on intercontinental routes to Europe, Australia, Northeast Asia, and domestic routes between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, offering 4-star international service quality. As of April 2019, Vietnam Airlines' Airbus A350-900 fleet had safely operated over 35,000 flights and transported nearly 9 million passengers.
The outstanding advantages of the Airbus A350-900 aircraft, such as spacious cabins, Business Class seats that recline 180 degrees into flat beds, privacy, and a modern entertainment system with large screens, provide passengers with a unique experience, especially on long flights.
