Vietnam Airlines will apply new fees for passenger service and security for passengers and baggage for newly issued and changed tickets from October 1, 2017.

According to Decision No. 2345/QD-BGTVT dated August 8, 2017 of the Ministry of Transport (MOT), from October 1, the adjustment of prices and price ranges for some specialized aviation services at airports will be applied. Airlines must recalculate and restructure the airfare range appropriately.

The leader of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam said: "The State increases the price of airport services but does not loosen the ceiling on airfares. Therefore, it will have little impact on passengers." The new fees are regulated by the Ministry of Transport, and Vietnam Airlines and other airlines are responsible for collecting and refunding them.

In addition to adjusting this fee, Vietnam Airlines will not increase the transportation fare. The airline affirms that all items of transportation fare, taxes, fees, and charges are detailed on the ticket. "Passengers should carefully check this information when issuing tickets to ensure that they are not charged incorrectly or charged for fees other than those specified," the announcement clearly states.

A recent announcement by the Ministry of Transport said that if the new collection rates are applied, the input costs of airlines will increase (161.53 billion VND), and the cost of a flight ticket will increase by 4,531 VND/passenger.

In addition, the average price for passenger service and domestic passenger security increased by VND25,854/passenger. Thus, the total additional cost that passengers have to pay for an air ticket is VND30,385.
