The talented musician passed away 13 years ago. For all those years, in April, Trinh Cong Son's music lovers have remembered him through grand stage performances, or in clubs and tea rooms…
The late composer Văn Cao, when speaking of his talented friend, remarked: "In Sơn's music, we don't see any trace of classical music in the scholarly Western style. He writes spontaneously, as if the emotions of music and poetry flow out naturally." Perhaps the charm of Trịnh Công Sơn's music lies precisely in this: not attempting to create any particular school or philosophy, yet still touching people's hearts like a refreshing stream. With beautiful and unexpectedly unique lyrics and ideas, combined with a special structure that remains almost unchanged like a form of folk music, Trịnh Công Sơn conquered millions of hearts not only in Vietnam but also beyond its borders...
He is considered the greatest composer of modern Vietnamese music, with over 600 widely popular songs. Trinh's music suits all ages and moods, and over time, it remains an endless stream in Vietnamese music.

Many singers have shared that they borrowed Trinh Cong Son's fame to make their names known to the audience. Trinh Cong Son, with his works, has captured the hearts of the audience. Few people have ever spontaneously hummed Trinh Cong Son's melodies. Even without grand, large-scale concerts, Trinh Cong Son's music lives on in its own way, with people who remain loyal to this genre.
Remembering the man who "unlocked" modern Vietnamese music, the "Mountain Shadow" program, commemorating the 13th anniversary of the death of the talented composer, will bring together the best singers of Trinh Cong Son's music. Singer Cam Van, who has been singing Trinh Cong Son's songs since the age of 10, will sweetly and carefully deliver verses that evoke the audience's love for him. The singer of "Hue - Saigon - Hanoi" will recall memories of Trinh Cong Son with songs like "Diem Xua," "Tinh Nho," and "Nhu Canh Vac Bay"...

Duc Tuan sings Trinh Cong Son's songs with all his heart; he feels that some of Trinh Cong Son's songs were written just for him. Although not "fixed" on Trinh Cong Son's music, he is still mentioned among the singers who perform this genre well, along with songs like "Xin cho toi" (Please Give Me), "Mua hong" (Pink Rain), "Ca dao me" (Mother's Folk Song), "Ben doi huu quanh" (Beside a Lonely Life)...

What's new about "Mountain Shadow" is the appearance of the eccentric Tùng Dương, telling his life story through Trịnh Công Sơn's music. Even from a very young age, Tùng Dương, with his high-pitched, almost feminine voice, sang beautifully "Em là bông hồng nhỏ" (You Are a Little Rose) and "Tuổi đời mênh mông" (A Vast Life) by Trịnh Công Sơn. A delightful experience for the audience was hearing Tùng Dương sing Trịnh Công Sơn's music alongside a traditional Vietnamese female singer in the song "Tiến thoái lưỡng nan" (Dilemma).
Notably, "Mountain Shadow" also features a new "phenomenon" in Trinh Cong Son's music, Ngoc Mai - a young singer from Hue. Could there be any connection to the image of Mai - Khanh Ly from Trinh Cong Son's earlier works?
And in a Trinh Cong Son tribute concert, Hong Nhung, who has been closely associated with Trinh Cong Son for over 10 years, is indispensable. Trinh Cong Son's music has become an integral part of Hong Nhung's personal artistic repertoire. Most of the time, wherever she performs, Hong Nhung sings one or two of Trinh Cong Son's songs. This is Hong Nhung's way of remembering a brother, a close friend, someone whose name is so precious that she "doesn't know what to call him."
With the magical touch of director Pham Hoang Nam, he will tell the audience about Trinh Cong Son's life through music, recounting his love affairs and life stories with the utmost sincerity from his friends and the enchanting saxophone playing of Tran Manh Tuan.
Notably, the program at the Vietnam-Soviet Friendship Palace will also feature the appearance and heartfelt sharing of Trinh Cong Son's sister, singer Trinh Vinh Trinh. With a perfect sound and lighting team, a gentle, sophisticated, and elegant stage screen, and orchestral conductor Duong Cam, the "Shadows of the Mountain" Trinh Cong Son music night will be completely different from previous programs. It will be fresh yet full of emotion, as authentic as Trinh Cong Son's music has always been.
