24/05/2021

This giant 3D installation by renowned French artist JR (Jean Rene) is located right next to Paris's iconic tourist attraction, the Eiffel Tower. It is seen as preparation for the tower's planned reopening to visitors in mid-July.

A massive black and white 3D painting is located in Esplanade du Trocadero, directly opposite the Eiffel Tower. The artwork will be on display until June 17th and is currently attracting long lines of people waiting to take photos. Visitors are creatively posing with the painting to create the illusion of jumping over a chasm or across a gorge.

Previously, in April 2019, JR caused a sensation in Paris when he created a "surreal" installation that made the Louvre Tower appear to emerge from the ground. JR's reputation arose from his large-scale portrait paintings on the facades of major buildings around the world, such as in the slums of Nairobi (Kenya) and Rio de Janeiro (Brazil)...

This artist's latest work on the Eiffel Tower was created in preparation for the reopening of this iconic tourist attraction in mid-July after months of closure due to the pandemic.

Visitors can purchase tickets online from June 1st and begin visiting from July 16th. To ensure visitor safety, health protection and COVID-19 prevention measures will remain fully implemented. According to the French news agency RFI, the number of visitors to the tower will be limited to 10,000 per day to ensure social distancing.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the tower has been closed to visitors since the end of 2020 to minimize the spread of the disease caused by large gatherings. Initially, the tower was scheduled to reopen in December, but conditions at that time were not yet suitable. On average, the Eiffel Tower receives about 7 million visitors each year, three-quarters of whom are foreign tourists.
