Recently, the art of tailoring and wearing Hue's ao dai (traditional Vietnamese dress) (Hue city, Thua Thien-Hue province) was included in the National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage, under the category of Folk Knowledge, "The Knowledge of Tailoring and Wearing Hue's Ao Dai".
Hue City is not only a heritage site with many famous tourist attractions and historical and cultural relics, but it is also known and loved for its ao dai (traditional Vietnamese dress), created by many skilled artisans. The ao dai is a special heritage of the ancient capital of Hue, originally created by the community in the early 17th century and later recognized and formalized as the national costume by the Nguyen lords and then the Nguyen kings. Therefore, the Hue ao dai is not simply a garment but a work of art, embodying the cultural identity of Hue and bearing the historical imprints of a glorious dynasty.

In Hue, for many years, the movement to preserve and promote the traditional ao dai (Vietnamese long dress) has been actively promoted. Many campaigns encouraging the wearing of ao dai in the community and in workplaces have been launched to reflect traditional values and folk culture. Previously, the People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue province approved the project "Hue - The Capital of Ao Dai," aiming to exploit, promote, and enhance the status of Hue's ao dai in the development of tourism, with a total budget of 535.5 billion VND.
The trend of wearing the traditional Vietnamese dress (áo dài) in the workplace has spread to various government agencies in Hue.
One of the key objectives of this project is to preserve and promote the value of Hue's traditional ao dai (Vietnamese long dress) tailoring and wearing skills. This serves as a foundation for effectively promoting and honoring Hue's ao dai, boosting economic and tourism development, establishing Hue's ao dai in the international community, and developing the brand of Hue – the capital of ao dai.
