CapitaLand Group's flagship projects such as Raffles City Singapore, ION Orchard, CapitaGreen, Ascott Raffles Place Singapore, Suzhou Center Mall, Raffles City Hangzhou all participated in Earth Hour on March 24, 2018, at 8:30 pm local time, by simultaneously turning off the facade lights and unnecessary lights.

Mr Tan Seng Chai, Chief People Officer and Chairman of the CapitaLand Sustainability Committee, said: “We work together towards the goal of making cities a global habitat. Our focus on sustainability enables us to be proactive in our future-proofing efforts. Last year’s Earth Hour campaign was a huge success as CapitaLand made the quiz available online by downloading the CapitaStar mobile app. This year, the CapitaLand Earth Hour quiz allows members to earn more points, with a new quiz every day, encouraging participants to learn about climate and take small but practical actions to reduce plastic, carbon and water consumption.

Mr Tan Seng Chai added: “As CapitaLand creates the real estate industry of the future, we are conscious of the need to be sustainable in our design and construction solutions, and we have dynamic initiatives to engage and educate our customers, be they shoppers in our complexes, tenants, residents in our residential and serviced apartment projects, partners and stakeholders. Everyone is actively participating in protecting the environment. Through the activities we organize in our buildings during Earth Hour 2018, we bring the community together to fight climate change. We also have online activities to connect with the younger generation.”

CapitaLand buildings around the world simultaneously hold activities such as environmental quizzes, recycling, cycling, tree planting, candlelit dinners, environmental film screenings, etc. All activities connect the community together.

In Vietnam, CapitaLand and Ascott, a subsidiary of CapitaLand Group, organized many green activities for many weeks in support of Earth Hour. More than 1,000 employees and residents living in the company's buildings participated in cycling and saving energy consumption. People decorated Green Corners with recycled materials, organized Green Fairs, planted trees in protective forests, and cycled around the central streets of Ho Chi Minh City. All activities had the unanimous participation of employees, residents, tenants, partners, etc. All activities conveyed the message of environmental protection.

This is the 11th year that CapitaLand and Ascott have supported Earth Hour, connecting the community of individuals and businesses to take small but effective actions to improve the situation of climate change. In addition to participating in global activities, this year, Ascott has also received an award for its environmental protection efforts from the Singapore Building and Construction Authority (BCA), a ministry under the Singapore Ministry of National Development for environmentally friendly construction. This year, Ascott's environmental award also includes Somerset Ho Chi Minh, one of the Group's serviced apartment buildings in Vietnam, which has received the BCA Green Mark GoldPLUS award. The BCA Green Mark certification is internationally prestigious and is a global standard for environmentally friendly design and construction. The achievements of Somerset Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam, have affirmed the Group's commitment to operating in the spirit of combining economic development, environmental protection and social responsibility.
