With a suitcase full of highlife, fuji, benga, tsonga disco, soukous, hip-hop, rhumba, ethio-soul tapes and more that Brian Shimkovitz found on his travels across Africa, Awesome Tapes from Africa's DJ sets are filled with the excitement and joy that characterizes the best parties you've ever been to.

Brian Shimkovitz is the man behind the blog Awesome Tapes from Africa, a treasure trove of African music largely unknown (but well worth it) in the West. The blog features MP3s of cassette tapes he has found, along with scans of the cassette covers and commentary from the collector himself.

The audience will experience a wide range of music, sometimes it's Prince Khonjo's Kenyan disco, sometimes it's a Burkina Faso record by a stranger named Ouobraogo Charles, sometimes it's a collection of hunting songs from Mali.
