Cambodia bans tourists from taking nude photos at Angkor Wat.

After some international tourists took nude photos at Angkor Wat and shared them on social media, the authorities there issued a ban and said they would impose penalties if this continued.

Angkor Wat is a famous temple complex in Cambodia and the largest religious monument in the world. Each year, Angkor Wat welcomes approximately 2 million foreign tourists. Therefore, as more and more international visitors took and posted nude and revealing photos online, affecting the sanctity, sacredness, and reputation of the temple, the authorities implemented a policy of absolute prohibition against taking photos to "show off any sensitive body parts" at the site.

Accordingly, companies, journalists, and photographers wishing to create artistic nude photographs must clearly present their ideas and purposes to the Angkor Wat Protection and Management agency, Apsara, and work under the supervision of security personnel. Independent tourists, however, will not be tolerated because, according to an Apsara spokesperson in an interview with "The Cambodia Daily," the reason is: "Some people have taken nude images and used them in films, books, and brochures, which has a very negative impact on the image of Angkor Wat."

From January 1st, 2016, Angkor Wat will open two hours earlier, at 5:30 AM, to allow visitors to witness the spectacular sunrise.

In addition to the above changes, the monument management board has also just announced a code of conduct for visitors to curb the inappropriate behavior of thousands of people within the temple grounds each year, and it is posted outside the entrance as a warning.
