Following reports from local residents, on the evening of September 11th, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (NN-PTNT) of Binh Dinh province invited leaders of the Quy Nhon City People's Committee and relevant agencies to conduct an on-site inspection of the subsidence along the seawall behind the Hoang Gia resort (in the area bordering Ghenh Rang and Nguyen Van Cu wards, Quy Nhon City) to determine the cause and find solutions.
Mr. Ngo Hoang Nam, Chairman of the Quy Nhon City People's Committee, confirmed that the subsidence in this area is most likely due to weather conditions causing fluctuations in ocean currents. Experts will assess and analyze the situation to determine the cause.
The image shows the area behind the Royal Resort on the afternoon of July 18th, when it was still a beautiful golden sandy beach.
On the afternoon of September 11, 2019, the sandbank was lowered by more than 1 meter, revealing a rocky area covered in moss and algae.
Inspection results show that the high tide washed away approximately 350 meters of sand behind the Royal Resort, exposing a bed of moss-covered rocks that were used to reinforce the seawall decades ago.
Mr. Nguyen Huu Vui, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Binh Dinh province, also stated that the large waves formed from the impact of the southwest monsoon combined with the influence of typhoon No. 4 recently caused the sand in this area to shift.
This embankment is approximately 350 meters long, of which 240 meters were built by Hoang Anh Gia Lai Company when constructing the Hoang Gia Resort (formerly known as Hoang Anh Gia Lai Resort), and 110 meters were built by the Quy Nhon City People's Committee.
Currently, authorities are planning a temporary solution to reinforce the seawall with gabions to prevent erosion and ensure safety during this year's rainy and stormy season. In the long term, the department has also recommended that the province consider pumping sand to restore the beach to its previous state.
