More and more Vietnamese people are participating in unique challenges around the world. Around the same time as Trang Ha, the first Vietnamese woman to complete a marathon at the prestigious Boston Marathon, Tang Nguyet Minh became the first woman to complete a marathon at the North Pole (FWD North Pole Marathon 2018) on April 16th.

She proudly raised the Vietnamese flag at the world-class competition.

Before the official competition, she and nine other members of the FWD team participated in intensive training courses at Tromsø and Svalbard stations in Norway, where temperatures range from -8 to -21 degrees Celsius, to gradually adapt to the environment. On April 16th, the marathon took place in the Arctic with an average temperature of -32 degrees Celsius.

On her personal page, Minh shared that she ran through the night from 11 PM to almost 9 AM in the freezing cold of -32 degrees Celsius to conquer the 42km distance.

Complete the competition, surpass yourself!

Minh shared about the obstacles everyone faces: "Here, even breathing is a problem. The cold weather causes the mucous membranes of my nose to constantly break and bleed. The wind is so cold that even smiling makes my teeth ache. Not to mention the dizziness from the light reflecting off the snow, cold ears, headaches, and numbness in my knees and thighs..." But on the other hand, she is also enjoying this special phase of her life and believes she has tried her best to complete the competition and overcome her own limitations.

This is the second consecutive year that FWD Insurance Group has been the main sponsor of this competition, with the aim of encouraging people to bravely overcome obstacles, confidently pursue their passions, and break through their own limits to enjoy life to the fullest.

Interestingly, at the race in the coldest place in the world, Vietnam had two participants. Besides Tang Nguyet Minh, there was also athlete Do Duc. He completed the challenge in 8 hours, 5 minutes, and 20 seconds. In 2016, Do Duc conquered 7 marathons on 7 continents in 7 months.
