The first mountain bike race in Sapa.

04/08/2016

Going back 5-6 years, very few international races were held in Vietnam; however, in the last 3 years, this sport has seen significant development. One of the first large-scale events was the Vietnam Mountain Marathon, with the number of participants skyrocketing from 250 to nearly 1500.

Recently, the racing team introduced a new race, the Vietnam Mountain Bike Marathon. The inaugural Vietnam Mountain Bike Marathon will take place from November 4-6, 2016 in Sapa.

World number 2 and multiple-time Canadian Grand Prix champion Cory Wallace has been scouting the tracks this year. He commented, “Every year I’m surprised by a few tracks, and scouting the remote routes of Vietnam in preparation for this November race is one of them.”

The three-day race will take place in the mountainous region around Sapa, promising to be a pioneering event as the riders will be among the first to experience these challenging routes. On the first day, riders will compete on 55km of remote northern terrain, home to the H'Mong ethnic group. The second stage, a 68km race south, will head towards the Tay and Red Dao ethnic areas. The race then enters its final sprint towards Sapa town, passing through Black H'Mong villages.
