07/10/2014

The Fribourg Canter Choir from Switzerland will perform on October 8th in Hanoi.

During this tour, the Fribourg Canter Choir (Switzerland) will bring to the audience in Hanoi many special performances, imbued with the essence of life. These include songs praising peace, songs about nomadic people, songs celebrating village girls, scenes of life at a rural market, and songs praising friendship, empathy, and tolerance...
In particular, this program featured many songs about children, such as "Sleep Well," a lullaby with imagery of a cradle; a song about the feelings of children after the war; and "Les enfants de la Garonne," a song about the children of Toulouse (France)...

In addition to their performance in Hanoi, the artists of the Fribourg State Choir will embark on a tour across Vietnam, visiting, learning about the culture, and conducting some charitable activities in the southern provinces and cities.

Founded in 1952, the Fribourg Canter Choir is one of the most beloved performing arts groups in Switzerland. The choir specializes in performing folk songs that reflect the rich culture of the people scattered across the Alps (which includes parts of Germany, Austria, Italy, France, and Switzerland).

The Fribourg State Choir consists of 35 members and is currently conducted by Pierre Huwiller. He is the grandson of the late Pierre Kaelin, famous for his hundreds of songs with mountain folk influences, composed for leprosy patients in the leprosy colony he founded. Today, these songs have become the main material for the choir's performances.

The Fribourg Choir's fame has spread beyond Switzerland's borders. They have toured extensively in countries such as Russia, the United States, Greece, Turkey, Hungary, Canada, Brazil, France, Germany, Austria, and Japan. The choir has become an "ambassador" of the Fribourg canton, Switzerland, bringing the distinctive folk songs of the Alps region to the world.

Tickets for the show are available free of charge at the Performing Arts Center, 32 Nguyen Thai Hoc Street. The Fribourg State Choir's performance will take place at the Youth Theatre.
