Jeju Island offers many new types of experiential tourism

19/07/2022

The government of Jeju Island, South Korea continues to deploy a series of new types of experiential tourism to attract tourists such as cycling to see the scenery, cleaning up ocean waste or experiencing being a chef.

After more than 2 years of absence of tourists due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, Jeju Island is currently transforming with daily changes to regain its reputation as a "Resort Paradise," - an ideal destination that not only captivates people with its peaceful, wild beauty but also very charming.

After the success of organizing Green tours (zero carbon and zero waste) and most recently re-implementing 30-day visa exemption for international visitors, Jeju Island continues to launch a series of new exciting experiential tourism types.

Biclean

"Biclean" is a combination of cycling, checking in, and cleaning up ocean waste in coastal areas. This is a new type of experiential tourism that the Jeju Island government is operating to give visitors the opportunity to freely and comfortably cycle along winding coastal roads, check in, breathe fresh air, and join hands in cleaning the marine environment.

For only about 1.2 million VND, visitors can experience this new service lasting 2 hours with routes from easy to difficult (cycling around the village, cycling on the coastal road and cycling around the island) using regular bicycles or electric bicycles (with power assist).

In March 2021, the Jeju Island government also established a cycling school to help everyone easily learn and experience this new form of tourism.

After harvesting ingredients such as carrots, tangerines, cauliflower and rosemary (a vegetable with a distinctive aroma) from Toto Atelier's garden, visitors will be able to make traditional cakes of this tourist island such as Jeju Carrot Cake; Jeju Tangerine Cake, sweet cakes (made with egg whites and sugar)...

Even if you have never learned how to bake, with the recipe being video instructions from professional chefs of Toto Atelier, visitors just need to pay close attention through the screen in front of them and use their skillful hands to make cakes with their own unique style.

Sound Walk - from "See" to "Feel"

For only 700,000 VND, visitors have the opportunity to satisfy their five senses by exploring and recording the mysterious sounds of nature in Gotjawal (Jeju's unique name, the only place in the world where northern and southern tropical plants coexist).

By participating in the "Sound Walk" service, visitors can discover the hidden sounds of nature in Gotjawa for themselves using advanced recording and recording equipment, turning a simple sightseeing trip into a direct experience of sounds that are normally inaudible from nature.

There are sounds of various animals, birds as well as the deep chirps and flapping of wings of bees and insects. Visitors can also have their own recordings with the help of advanced professional audio editing equipment.

Glocal Media Art Restaurant - cuisine combined with art media

Jeju Island's tourist restaurant "Haenyeo Kitchen Bukchon" is an attractive destination for visitors to experience the unique dishes of Haenyeo (female clam divers) chefs and media art inspired by the island's seascape.

Sitting and enjoying the dishes in the scene where the walls around the dining room become a vivid 3D screen with stereoscopic surround sound inspired by the seascape, visitors feel like they are dining on the sea, in a cave or on an island with a waiter acting as a storyteller to describe in detail the dishes served.

Meals are prepared entirely from fresh seafood caught by Haenyeos and seasonal ingredients grown on Jeju Island.
