To serve the needs of millions of passengers to return home for reunions and spring travel, the railway industry will mobilize hundreds of trains and provide hundreds of thousands of tickets, ensuring that everyone can return home to celebrate Tet safely and conveniently from February 3, 2026 to March 8, 2026 (ie from December 16, At Ty year to January 20, Binh Ngo year). This is one of the largest transport trips of the year, with the scale and number of trains significantly increased.
According to the announced plan, there will be more than 55 trains organized every day, mobilizing over 800 carriages to serve passengers. In total, about 330,000 train tickets will be provided for passengers traveling along the route, helping to solve the difficult problem of "supply - demand" during peak periods.
To meet the increasing travel demand of people during the Lunar New Year 2026, the railway industry will organize more than 55 trains/day, mobilize over 800 carriages, and provide about 330,000 train tickets for passengers.
On the North-South railway, there will be 7 pairs of Thong Nhat trains running daily, including SE1/2, SE3/4, SE5/6, SE7/8, SE9/10, SE11/12, SE23/24. In addition, to serve the increased travel demand, the railway industry has also arranged 2 additional pairs of trains, TN3/4 and TN5/6.
Not only focusing on the main route, regional routes are also being strengthened. Every day, there will be 12 pairs of trains from Hanoi to provinces such as Vinh, Dong Hoi, Da Nang, Hue, Quy Nhon, Nha Trang, Phan Thiet... and many trains departing from Ho Chi Minh City. Especially, during the Tet holidays, from December 29 to the 3rd day of Tet, there will be additional trains to serve passengers going on spring trips, helping people easily travel between tourist destinations and major cities.
The railway industry said that the Tet train transportation period will last from February 3, 2026 to March 8, 2026 (ie December 16, At Ty year to January 20, Binh Ngo year).
To ensure the ticket sales process is fair and smooth, the railway industry will be divided into two phases. The first phase, from September 15, 2025 to September 19, 2025, will be dedicated to group ticket sales. Agencies, armed forces units, universities, colleges, industrial zones and social organizations will be given priority to register to buy tickets to ensure that officials, employees and students can return home to celebrate Tet.
According to the plan, there will be 7 pairs of Thong Nhat trains (SE1/2, SE3/4, SE5/6, SE7/8, SE9/10, SE11/12, SE23/24) and 2 pairs of reinforced trains (TN3/4, TN5/6) every day on the Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City route.
In the second phase, starting from 8:00 a.m. on September 20, 2025, Tet train tickets will be widely sold to all individual passengers. Passengers can buy tickets easily and diversely through many different channels. Online ticket purchase channels include official websites such as dsvn.vn, vetau.com.vn, vetauonline.vn, and giare.vetau.vn. In addition, tickets will also be sold at stations, ticket sales points and official agents nationwide. For increased convenience, passengers can also buy tickets through mobile applications, e-wallets, banks, ticket sales apps on phones and call centers of Saigon and Hanoi stations. Each customer can buy a maximum of 10 outbound tickets and 10 return tickets to avoid ticket speculation.
Train tickets for Tet 2026 will be sold in 2 phases: From September 15-19, tickets will be sold to agencies, armed forces units, universities, colleges, industrial parks, social organizations, etc.
To encourage and support policy beneficiaries, the railway industry will continue to apply preferential ticket discounts. As usual, students and social policy beneficiaries such as Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, war invalids, the elderly, and children will enjoy discounts of 10% to 20%, helping to reduce the burden of travel costs.
From 8:00 a.m. on September 20, the railway industry will open wide sales to individual passengers via the website (dsvn.vn, vetau.com.vn, vetauonline.vn, giare.vetau.vn), at stations, ticket sales points, and official agents.
The railway industry also issued some important recommendations for passengers to avoid unnecessary risks. Passengers should buy tickets through official channels to avoid "ticket brokers", and bring full identification documents and documents proving the discount when buying tickets. Once they have tickets, passengers should carefully check the information on the electronic ticket, including the ticket code, train label, departure station, arrival station, departure date and personal identification number, to ensure there are no errors.
With these careful preparations, the railway industry hopes to bring a complete and safe Tet holiday to everyone, helping the journey home become smooth and filled with joy.
