A concert in memory of Pham Duy, Van Cao, and Trinh Cong Son.

14/03/2013

The reunion of the audience with three leading names in modern Vietnamese music will take place on April 3rd at the Hanoi Friendship Palace.

Pham Duy has recently passed away, Trinh Cong Son has been "lodging" this world for 12 years, and Van Cao has been in paradise for 18 years, yet their immortal works live on in the hearts of music lovers. Three talents, three different styles, but all deeply passionate about life and love. While Van Cao's music is romantic and profound, Trinh takes listeners into a dreamlike realm of love, a place of nothingness, Pham Duy's love is passionate but fleeting, distant, and painfully real. Pham Duy himself once admitted: "The love in my songs is real. My friends and my wife know who I love; it's not an illusion or a dream like Trinh Cong Son's. In the early days of modern Vietnamese music, Trinh sought love to lull life into a dreamlike realm, Van Cao wandered into a utopian paradise and forgot his way home, while I still broke through the walls of fog to find my way back to reality."

From "Wet Eyelashes," his debut work dedicated to the "ethereal" Thanh Thuy, Trinh Cong Son left behind a vast musical treasure trove that even Van Cao exclaimed, "Trinh Cong Son composes as if he were taking something out of his pocket." After "Dream Stream," "Heavenly Paradise," and "Ancient Melody," Van Cao became the embodiment of a revolutionary musician with stirring anthems like "Epic of the Lo River" and "My Village." Pham Duy, deeply devoted to the Vietnamese language, elevated Vietnamese music to new heights with his seven-note scale.

The singers performing in the show are: Hong Nhung, Anh Tuyet, and Anh Tho.

The "Dating" concert brought audiences famous songs by Van Cao, Trinh Cong Son, and Pham Duy, performed by three vocalists: Anh Tuyet, Hong Nhung, and Anh Tho. Thanks to Van Cao's compositions, Anh Tuyet found her place in the music industry. Hong Nhung is a leading lady associated with Trinh Cong Son's love songs. Anh Tho, a vocalist specializing in folk and revolutionary songs, evokes memories of the days when my village went to war, or the poignant folk-inspired songs of Pham Duy. The concert also featured guest appearance by film actor Quy Binh. Quy Binh, with his sweet and expressive voice, has previously performed duets with Anh Tuyet and received much praise from the audience.
