Heritage of Future Past is a two-year project within the British Council's Culture and Development Programme in Vietnam. This project will work with Vietnam's musical and film heritage, focusing particularly on lesser-known and endangered values, using innovative approaches to create opportunities for equitable and sustainable development within Vietnam's cultural heritage sector.

The British Council in Vietnam will work with local communities to create new opportunities for them to contribute to and directly benefit from the protection, promotion, and preservation of their cultural heritage values, especially as these cultural values are more widely recognized and appreciated. The project aims to increase understanding, appreciation, and application of these cultural heritage values in the daily lives of communities, as well as in artistic practices, curatorial work, and education. The project will work with partners from central and local cultural heritage research institutions and organizations in the private sector. Project activities include research, documentation, conservation, training and capacity building (including oral teaching methods), experimentation and innovation, policy advocacy and education (including policy and community dialogue), reflection and restoration of the value and creative continuation of these cultural heritages in contemporary practice.
The Heritage Connect project plays a vital role in the British Council's cultural mission in Vietnam as a key UK cultural and educational institution. The project is also part of a series of programs and activities that the British Council will undertake in 2018 to celebrate its 25th anniversary in Vietnam.
The British Council has made a positive contribution to enhancing cultural and educational understanding between Vietnam and the United Kingdom, helping to strengthen the strategic relationship between the two countries, promoting friendly exchange and sharing of knowledge in many fields including arts, creative economy, English language teaching, education, social business and innovation, examinations and assessments.
The British Council is committed to further deepening and strengthening its activities in Vietnam to create more opportunities for exchange and cooperation and deliver greater mutual benefits. A key project, "Connecting Heritage," worth £500,000, ran from 2018 to 2020.
