Heritage of Future Past is a two-year project within the British Council Vietnam’s Culture and Development Programme. It will work with Vietnam’s music and film heritage, with a particular focus on under-represented and at-risk assets, using innovative approaches to create inclusive and sustainable growth opportunities for the cultural heritage sector in Vietnam.

The British Council in Vietnam will work with local communities to create new opportunities for them to contribute to and directly benefit from the protection, promotion and preservation of their cultural heritage, especially when these cultural values are more widely recognized and appreciated. The project aims to increase understanding, appreciation and application of these cultural heritage values in the daily lives of the community and in artistic, curatorial and educational practices. The project will work with a range of partners from central and local cultural heritage agencies and research institutes, and arts and culture organisations in the private sector. Project activities include research, documentation, conservation, training and capacity building (including oral teaching methods), experimentation and innovation, policy advocacy and education (including policy and community dialogue), re-visiting and re-valuing and creatively continuing these cultural heritages in contemporary practice.
Heritage of Connections plays a key role in the British Council’s cultural mission in Vietnam as the UK’s leading cultural and educational institution. The project is also part of a series of programmes and activities that the British Council will deliver in 2018 to celebrate 25 years of operations in Vietnam.
The British Council has actively contributed to enhancing cultural and educational understanding between Vietnam and the UK, helping to strengthen the strategic relationship between the two countries, promoting friendly exchanges and knowledge sharing in many areas including arts, creative economy, English language teaching, education, social entrepreneurship and innovation, exams and assessment.
The British Council is committed to further deepening and strengthening its activities in Vietnam to create more opportunities for exchange and cooperation and bring more mutual benefits. The important project is called: Heritage of Connections worth £500,000 and will run from 2018 to 2020.
