The film “Mat Biec” was adapted from the novel of the same name by writer Nguyen Nhat Anh and is “making waves” in the Vietnamese cinema market. Besides Ngan’s unrequited love for his friend from the same hometown, Ha Lan, the audience is also attracted by the film’s beautiful fairy tale setting.
Mat Biec was filmed in Hue, in which the main setting is Ha Cang village - a peaceful, poetic village true to the characteristics of Hue. Besides, there are some other locations such as: Thien An pine hill, Do Do Community Primary School, Khai Dinh tomb, Vong Canh hill,...
After the movie was released, many young people with a passion for travel quickly found these locations, came here to take photos, explore and "transform" into the two main characters in a romantic setting.
Ha Cang Village

Ha Cang village is located in Quang Phu commune, on the outskirts of Hue city. This land is famous for Bao La rattan and bamboo weaving and the Con Toc ferry terminal - Tam Giang lagoon area.
The parasol tree, also known as the lonely tree, was the location where the scene of Ngan playing the guitar for Ha Lan was filmed. The parasol tree usually blooms from around February to March of the lunar calendar when all the leaves have fallen, with clusters of pink-purple flowers. From the center of Hue city, visitors can search on Google Maps with the keyword “Parasol Tree with Blue Eyes”.
Do Do Community Primary School

This is the school where Ngan and Ha Lan studied as children. Although the word “community” only appeared in the final years of the war against the US in the South, in Ha Cang village, everything is kept intact, creating a simple, old but familiar and close school scene.
Hue University of Education

Hue University of Education appears in the scenes where Ngan and Dung wait for Ha Lan after school. This is one of the most famous and oldest schools in the Central region. Located at 24 Le Loi (Hue City), this place has been chosen as the setting for many famous movies.

Khai Dinh Tomb
A familiar and famous place that any tourist coming to Hue wishes to visit at least once. Khai Dinh Tomb appearing in Blue Eyes still retains the solemnity and antiquity of an extremely prominent construction, thanks to the combination of Asian and European architecture.

Khai Dinh Tomb was built in 11 years (1920 - 1931), spanning the reigns of two Nguyen Dynasty kings, Khai Dinh and his son Bao Dai. Although it is the smallest project, it is the most labor-intensive and expensive of all the Nguyen Dynasty tombs.
Vong Canh Hill

Vong Canh Hill appears in a scene of Ngan and Ha Lan walking. This is a 43 m high hill in the southwest of Hue city, the foot of the hill adjacent to the bank of Huong river. Standing on Vong Canh hill, you can see the poetic scenery of the city, especially the mausoleum of Nguyen dynasty kings.

Thien An Hill
Thien An Hill is the sim forest where Ngan picked sim for Ha Lan, and is the road they both cycled on summer days.

Although Thien An Church does not appear in Mat Biec, tourists visiting the hill often do not forget to stop by this place to take pictures (Photo: @nlpt.kyy)
Located in the south of Hue city, Thien An hill is located on the same route as Khai Dinh tomb. This is a large hill covered in green pine trees. At the end of the pine forest is an ancient church, which is also a "hot" check-in spot for many young people. To get here, visitors just need to drive straight on Dien Bien Phu street, turn left near Nam Giao and go straight for a while to get there.
