The Be Clown troupe performs the circus show "Calm Sea" in Can Tho.

12/04/2018

On April 15, 2018, at 7:30 PM, the artists of the Be Clown troupe will perform the circus show "Calm Sea, Windless Wind!" at Luu Huu Phuoc Park in Can Tho, at the invitation of the French Institute in Vietnam, as part of the activities celebrating the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and France, with the support of Can Tho city. Admission is free.

“Calm Sea, Windless Wind!” is a circus performance by the French art troupe Be Clown. With a theme of the sea and a fairytale world, the show will captivate audiences with a timeless story, escaping the everyday. “Calm Sea, Windless Wind!” is a colorful and imaginative experience, set in a poetic atmosphere with beautiful clown performances and live music. The life of a crew of nine clowns and circus performers, along with two musicians, will be vividly recreated on stage.

Lasting about an hour, "Calm Sea, Gentle Wind!" is a wordless circus for everyone, performed on an imaginary 7.5-meter-tall sailboat, where sailors or the captain stand guard and passengers gaze out at the vast world. However, the boat's enormous white sails are not strong enough to propel it out to sea, leaving the entire group seemingly immobile.

Throughout the performance, various circus genres such as pole acrobatics, aerial trapeze, juggling, and acrobatics will be showcased, combined with a variety of musical instruments (acoustic, clarinet, violin & alto, bass clarinet, trumpet, guitar, flute, and percussion).

The Be Clown Performing Arts Troupe specializes in creating and performing humorous, poetic circus acts for all ages, combining clowning, circus arts, drama, and music. Be Clown's performances are particularly geared towards people facing hardship. The troupe also frequently organizes workshops, art festivals, and art training programs for the public.

Be Clown was initiated by two clowns, Soline and Charly, after a year of cycling across Europe. They met many other artists and together created and performed humanistic circus acts aimed at the community. They continued to tour extensively around the world.

For their project in Asia, the Be Clown troupe consists of 13 artists. They aim to perform clown-circus-drama shows for all ages at orphanages, schools, villages, hospitals, theaters, and street festivals in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia. This journey began in December 2017 by Thac Ba Lake and is expected to conclude in Hanoi in May 2018.
