the origin of the restaurant
Labassin at Villa Escudero is not a natural waterfall. It is an overflow dam, built in 1929 as part of a plan by politician Don Arsenio. The dam was designed to hold back water for irrigation of the surrounding coconut plantation. It was not until 1981 that the Villa Escudero plantation was opened to the public as a tourist attraction, offering visitors a glimpse into the historic plantation. The private collections of the Don Arsenio family are displayed as a museum for visitors.
