Many tourists are stranded on the island due to the effects of the storm.
According to records, as of 3 p.m. on July 22, on Cat Ba Island (Hai Phong), there were nearly 4,000 tourists stranded due to the impact of storm No. 2. The reason tourists were stranded on the island was because the ferry and cable car routes had stopped operating to prevent the storm. All tourists still on the island will not be able to return to the mainland until further notice.
Cat Hai District People's Committee requested organizations and individuals providing tourism services in the district to develop plans to ensure safety and support tourists staying at their establishments during the storm.
Hotel owners and accommodation establishments all have the same spirit in responding to the call of the People's Committee of Cat Hai district. On July 22, facing the fact that many tourists have incurred expenses and difficulties in staying, some accommodation establishments in the area have offered to waive or reduce room rates by 50%.
This was widely announced by hotel owners on groups specializing in providing information to tourists coming to Cat Ba. Many hotels said they implemented this program with the desire to convey the message that Cat Ba is a safe and friendly destination despite the negative effects of the weather. The number of free accommodation registrations at many hotels was overloaded on July 22, the hotel hotlines were constantly ringing with calls from tourists stranded on the island.
Tourists were supported to stay in Cat Ba due to the impact of the storm.
Previously, in 2016, due to the impact of typhoon Mirinae, many hotels in Cat Ba also provided free accommodation for many international tourists stranded on Cat Ba Island. This action received much support from tourists and the community.
The Cat Hai district authorities continue to advise residents and tourists to closely monitor the storm's developments to ensure safety. This has contributed to beautifying the beautiful image of Cat Ba tourism for domestic and international tourists. Hopefully, tourists will soon return to the mainland safely and have wonderful travel experiences in Cat Ba in the next times.
