In Vietnam, combining tourism with music performances has become increasingly popular. Organizers often choose venues with beautiful scenery and offer songs and artistic performances with a healing quality. This type of event allows audiences to enjoy not only the music but also the visual beauty. Furthermore, combining tourism with performances gives visitors the opportunity to relax, explore the culture, and especially sample the cuisine of new regions.
In Vietnam, recently many live music shows by famous singers with a large fan base have been organized in many popular tourist cities such as Da Lat, Da Nang, Hoi An, Ninh Binh… Keywords like “go to Da Lat to listen to music” or “go to Ninh Binh to see Ha Anh Tuan…” have become popular.
In Hue, recently many singers, bands, and event organizing companies have organized numerous music programs that have left a strong impression on music lovers, such as programs commemorating musician Trinh Cong Son, Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter, and then Spring again, and Wandering Clouds…
Young artists in the Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter, and then Spring Season 2 performances stirred up the music scene in Hue.
However, music performances in Hue have not generated significant ticket revenue and, more importantly, have not contributed much to local tourism. This is because most programs are organized by organizations, individuals, companies, and brands for sponsorship and promotion purposes, so they don't prioritize ticket sales. The programs mainly focus on attracting and entertaining local people. Hue truly needs large-scale music festivals or performances by leading singers, musicians, and artists from both within and outside the country with large fan bases to attract audiences to Hue for performances combined with tourism. Festival programs should focus more on music festivals and media coverage to attract domestic and international audiences to music and cultural/traditional craft festivals.
Hue boasts a diverse and rich natural landscape, encompassing mountains, rivers, and the sea. It also preserves many unique cultural values, with five recognized World Heritage sites. Furthermore, Hue is the cradle of Vietnamese music, with the Academy of Music, established in 2017, one of only three institutions nationwide offering undergraduate music programs. This academy has trained many famous singers, artists, and music producers currently working in major cities. Many singers and musicians from Hue, driven by their love for their homeland, are willing to return to organize large-scale music events, attracting fans from other provinces and cities to Hue for both leisure and tourism.
To increase the number of international tourists, it is necessary to encourage, promote, and facilitate performances by international or regional artists and bands whenever conditions permit. These performances attract a large number of fans who come to see their idols perform. Besides attending the performances, fans will also plan trips and vacations. This benefits other services such as hotels, cafes, entertainment areas, restaurants, and even tourist attractions and experiences. Most importantly, the performances and the journeys of the artists/bands and the audience are excellent and effective opportunities to promote the culture, tourism, and potential of the locality. Through these performances, singers and artists contribute to introducing the culture, cuisine, preserving heritage, and protecting the environment.
The program attracted a large number of fans who came to watch the singers perform.
It can be said that magnificent and poetic musical performance venues can be built everywhere in Hue. From the Imperial Citadel - Ngo Mon Square, along the Perfume River; pedestrian streets; the western hills with new art spaces like Le Ba Dang and Ru Ri Hill; the peaceful countryside of Phong Dien and Quang Dien; the Bach Ma area, Lap An Lagoon, Lang Co, and Canh Duong... all are interesting locations for musical performances. In particular, right in the heart of Hue city is the Song Huong Theatre, which opened in 2020 with a capacity of 1,000 seats and an international standard sound and lighting system, making it an ideal location for large-scale and high-class musical shows.
Besides favorable factors, Hue faces some disadvantages, such as frequent rain, excessive heat, and unpredictable weather. However, these problems are all overcome. Furthermore, with its experience in organizing large-scale art programs within the framework of the Festival, Hue is fully capable of organizing large-scale music performances that attract domestic and international tourists, combining them with tourism. Hue is known as a land of poetry, music, and art; this is one of the strengths that allows the city to embrace tradition and constantly innovate to become not only a Festival city but also a city with many strengths for various types of tourism.
