A luxury resort project in Quang Ninh has been ordered to stop construction to assess its environmental impact, after several incidents of mud spills into residential areas.

Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung has just requested the People's Committee of Quang Ninh province to stop construction of the Halong Bay Golf Club & Luxury Resort (FLC Ha Long) project to conduct an environmental impact assessment according to the law.

In mid-2016, heavy rains caused mud from the construction site of this project to flow down, flooding the roads and entering the houses of residents living at the foot of the hill.

At that time, the Ha Long City People's Committee decided to suspend the project until the unit fixed the problem. The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment also requested to stop the construction, but the construction continued, causing households near the project to worry that the mud spill incident could recur.

FLC Ha Long project of FLC Group Joint Stock Company, built on a 224ha hill in Hong Ha ward, Ha Long city. Total investment is 3,400 billion, the investor expects to complete the project in 2017.
