Banana Republic's Fall 2017 collection focuses on handcrafted designs, inspired by America's vibrant cities like New York, Detroit, Chicago, and Pittsburgh – as well as the skilled artisans who helped build and restore these industrial giants. The history, architecture, and art of these major cities are thoroughly explored, including powerfully inspiring imagery such as Chicago's iconic skyline and the stunning, historic warehouses of Detroit.
August – The Artist's Soul
Banana Republic's August collection celebrates the beauty of art, the craftsmanship of artisans, and the influence of the "Transformative Power of Art" exhibition within the community. Artists in Pittsburgh and Detroit—people who have contributed creatively to the revitalization of urban areas and economies—inspired the Banana Republic design team. Their creative inspiration stemmed from contemporary art exhibitions, street art, and even the striking flower house in Detroit. From this, the fall collection was born, focusing primarily on two main colors: olive green and khaki green, with creative color blending. Additionally, the collection draws inspiration from artists' work attire, combined with floral and other artistic motifs; all contributing to this inspiring August collection.
September – Classical Architecture
The September collection draws inspiration from the city's changing architecture, blending contrasting elements: meticulous and elaborate, clean yet slightly dusty like an industrial city, majestic yet restrained – providing endless inspiration for this collection. The color palette of the September collection focuses on dark shades such as camel, taupe, and rust, interspersed with striking navy and blue hues. The patterns are also inspired by the city's architecture, focusing on stripes, checkered patterns, decorative lace, and floral embroidery to highlight the beauty of each garment.
October – Rustic Handicrafts
The October collection is inspired by the artwork of skilled artisans. From small shops in historic Detroit to large family businesses like Hoeween Leather Corporation in Chicago, these artisans pay meticulous attention to detail, focusing on technique and materials; all of which has inspired this collection. The garments are expertly tailored down to the last thread and made from the finest fabrics, combined with floral and checkered patterns, along with timeless motifs, making the upcoming October collection a special highlight.
