
The two artists visited Vietnam as part of the Institut Français in Vietnam’s “Villa Saigon” Artist-in-Residence program last January. During their residency, the two artists created an animated film, combining shadow dance and water puppetry, Vietnamese folk tales and original sounds recorded in Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta. The final product, titled Going Through Disaster, will be an animated film and will be presented at the Mons Film Festival 2018.

At Salon Saigon, on February 7, will exhibit drawings by François Andès, storyboards from the animated film “Overcoming Disaster” and puppets used in the making of the film. These puppets were created by an artisan in Hanoi.
The two artists will perform a performance combining piano recitals and live painting. After the performance, the audience can join François Andès and Luiz Carvalho for a talk where they will present their project.

Visual artist François AndesHe trained at the School of Applied Arts in Roubaix and the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels. His paintings have been exhibited at the French Institute in Tétouan and the Bispo Do Rosario Museum. He was also the winner of an Artist in Residence scholarship at Casa France Brazil.

World Music Magazine (Le Monde de la Musique) introducespianist Luiz Gustavo Carvalhoas one of the most promising talents of our time. Artistic director of the Festival Artes Vertentes (Brazil), he studied at Belo Horizonte, the Vienna University of Music (Austria) and the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory (Russia).
