
The two artists visited Vietnam last January as part of the French Institute in Vietnam's "Villa Saigon" Artist Residency program. During their residency, they created an animated film combining shadow puppetry and water puppetry, Vietnamese fairy tales, and original sounds recorded in Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta. The final product, titled "Passing Through Disaster," will be an animated film and will be presented at the Mons Film Festival 2018.

At Salon Saigon, on February 7thThe exhibition will feature drawings by François Andès, storyboards from the animated film "Overcoming Disaster," and puppets used in the film's production. These puppets were created by an artisan in Hanoi.
The two artists will perform a combination of piano solo and live painting. After the performance, the audience can participate in a talk with François Andès and Luiz Carvalho to hear them introduce their projects.

Visual artist François AndesHe received his training at the School of Applied Arts in Roubaix and the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels. His paintings have been exhibited at the French Institute in Tétouan and the Bispo Do Rosario Museum. He also won an Artist Residency scholarship at Casa France Brazil.

The magazine Le Monde de la Musique presentspianist Luiz Gustavo CarvalhoHe is considered one of the most promising talents of our time. As the artistic director of the Artes Vertentes Festival (Brazil), he studied at Belo Horizonte, the Vienna University of Music (Austria), and the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow (Russia).
