South Korea continues to tighten visa procedures for Vietnamese citizens

13/11/2019

Recently, the Korean Visa Center in Ho Chi Minh City announced that starting from November 18, 2019, the Korean Consulate General in Vietnam will change regulations related to visa application for Vietnamese citizens.

Specifically, all travel companies (including designated and non-designated companies) when submitting customer applications must bring the original savings book. The original savings book will be returned after the staff receiving the application checks and compares.

Previously, from November 12, 2019, Korea applied a policy of exempting financial proof requirements when applying for a visa for Vietnamese citizens who have entered Korea or OECD countries (except Japan) in the last 5 years. In case of students, they must have a red-stamped certificate from the school they are attending; student cards are not valid as a substitute.

The most recent tightening of the 5-year visa regulations was in October. Accordingly, Vietnamese citizens with permanent residence in the three major cities of Hanoi, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City who have never had a short-term tourist visa history cannot apply for a multiple-entry metropolitan visa.
