Following the devastating impact of Typhoon Yagi, many peach growers in Hanoi's large orchards shared that they had never seen such a destructive flood in recent years. Peach trees, originally prepared for the Lunar New Year of 2025, were submerged 3-4 meters in floodwater. Some taller trees were not completely submerged, but their roots were rotten and unlikely to recover. If the hot weather persists, there is a high risk that the remaining peach trees will wither and die.
According to statistics from peach growers, Nhat Tan has 802 households involved in peach cultivation, which is not only a source of livelihood but also a source of pride for the local people. The pink, light pink, white, and especially the seven-petal peach trees were once 4-star OCOP products, attracting tourists and promoting the image of the village's traditional craft. But now, the future of this peach village seems bleaker than ever.
The festive atmosphere of Tet (Vietnamese Lunar New Year) has permeated the streets of Hanoi. Besides traditional flowers like peach blossoms, pear blossoms, and wild plum blossoms, this year's flower market is even more vibrant with the appearance of numerous stalls selling magnolia branches and trees. The number of magnolias on display has increased dramatically compared to previous years, creating an unprecedentedly colorful and bustling scene.
Besides peach and plum blossoms, this year many people are willing to spend millions of dong to buy magnolia blossoms to decorate for Tet early.
In stark contrast to the vibrant and striking beauty of peach blossoms, magnolias offer a pure and elegant charm. A distinctive feature of this flower is its large, round blossoms that open like five-pointed stars, often without accompanying leaves. Magnolias are typically displayed in branches, each bearing one to several blossoms, creating subtle accents in any space. The colors of magnolias are also diverse, primarily white with hints of pinkish-purple or pure pinkish-purple, evoking a gentle and relaxing feeling.
The delicate, gentle, yet refreshing beauty of magnolia blossoms is perfect for the upcoming Lunar New Year.
Previously, to enjoy the beauty of magnolia flowers, Vietnamese people often had to import them from China. However, with its humid tropical climate and fertile soil, Vietnam has the potential to become an ideal place for this flower. Recognizing this potential, many gardeners have boldly invested in growing magnolias.
As a result, the supply of magnolias on the market is now increasingly abundant, not only meeting domestic demand but also enabling exports. At Quang Ba flower market, in addition to imported magnolia branches, consumers can easily find magnolia branches grown right here in Vietnam.
The price of this flower ranges from 250,000 VND to 3,000,000 VND per plant.
According to flower shop owners, it usually takes about a month for magnolias to bloom from bud to full bloom. Even after blooming, the flowers retain their fresh beauty for a long time, potentially lasting until the 15th day of the first lunar month. Therefore, many families choose magnolias to decorate their homes during Tet (Lunar New Year), both as an alternative to peach blossoms and to create a unique focal point.
The price of magnolia blossoms this year varies considerably, depending on factors such as size, number of buds, and the shape of the tree. A large magnolia branch with many twigs and buds typically costs between 1.8 and 2 million VND. However, branches with beautiful, unique shapes and many buds can fetch up to 5 million VND. Smaller branches with 2-3 twigs, sold in bundles, cost 150,000 - 180,000 VND per bundle. This price is slightly higher than in previous years.
