Concert of the Symphony of Destiny

04/08/2014

At 8:00 PM on August 9, 2014, the City Theatre will host a concert entitled "The Symphony of Destiny," one of the most famous symphonies by the musical genius Beethoven, performed by artists from the Symphony Orchestra and Opera House and pianist Boris Kraljevic.

The "Fate" symphony is considered one of the most important works in the history of world music. During his peak creative period, Beethoven demonstrated exceptional talent with his profound compositional artistry, opening countless doors for the expressive language of music and the instruments of the symphony orchestra. He is celebrated as the one who elevated Classical art to its highest level and also pioneered the emergence of the Romantic school of music.

The "Fate" symphony employs a remarkably spectacular motif development technique. The motif, with its four opening notes, is etched into the listener's mind like the knocking of fate. From that motif, the music expands and rises ever higher, its richness and contrast seemingly endless. The work has had a profound influence on generations of renowned composers such as Brahms, Tchaikovsky, Bruckner, Mahler, and Berlioz.

The concert program at the City Theatre on August 9, 2014, by the Symphony Orchestra and Opera House will introduce to music lovers the classic symphony "Destiny" by LV Beethoven, conducted by the talented conductor Le Phi Phi.

The first part of the program was extremely interesting, featuring impressive musical artistry and 20th-century music. Most notably was the concerto for two pianos with orchestra by Francis Poulenc, a 20th-century French composer and outstanding pianist, resulting in a truly unique concerto showcasing superb piano technique. Francis Poulenc, along with the renowned Les Six group of six musicians from Montparnasse, presented a musical artistic approach that countered the Impressionist style represented by Claude Debussy and Maurice Ravel...

This is clearly evident in the use of harmony in this work by Poulenc, with sections entirely reflecting classical, clear, and simple harmonic tones. However, many orchestral techniques, harmonies, and rhythmic patterns here are similar to those used by Ravel in his Piano Concerto in G minor. Poulenc's Piano Concerto will be performed by two pianists, Boris Kraljevic (of former Yugoslavia origin) and Le Ho Hai.

The program opens with one of Claude Debussy's most famous works, the mystical symphonic poem "Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune" (Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun). This work later served as the music for Vaslav Nijinsky's ballet "Afternoon of a Faun." Claude Debussy's symphonic poem is celebrated as a turning point in musical history, transitioning from Impressionist to Modern music.

Featuring masterpieces from the treasury of human music, the concert program is hoped to provide a rich and enjoyable listening experience.
