Chungcheong Region Tourism Seminar – Korea

18/07/2017

The Korea Tourism Organization in Vietnam and the Chungcheong Region Tourism Promotion Association – Korea held a seminar to introduce new destinations in Chungcheongbuk-do Province, Chungcheongnam-do Province, Daejeon City and Sejong City in Hanoi on July 18, 2017 and in Ho Chi Minh City on July 19, 2017.

In 2016, the number of Vietnamese tourists to Korea reached 251,402 people, an increase of 54.5% compared to 2015. As of July 9, 2017, the total number of Vietnamese tourists to Korea reached 177,976 people, an increase of 29.8% compared to the same period last year. This proves that Vietnam is one of the key markets in the Southeast Asian region for Korean tourism. Recognizing the importance and abundant potential of the Vietnamese market, the Chungcheong region, including 4 administrative units: Chungcheongbuk-do Province, Chungcheongnam-do, Daejeon City and Sejong City, has become the 5th local unit out of 8 regional areas to visit and introduce their local tourism potential to Vietnamese tourism businesses and press agencies in 2017.

Within the framework of the workshop, the Chungcheong Region Tourism Promotion Association and the Korea Tourism Organization in Vietnam also signed an MOU with Vietravel tourism company, pledging to cooperate in building and promoting the sale of new tourism products to the Region.

Chungcheong region is located more than 2 hours away from Seoul by road. This is a large area located in the center of Korea and stretches over the territory of the three kingdoms of Silla, Baekje and Goguryo of the Three Kingdoms period of the Korean peninsula, so this place retains many historical relics and diverse cultural features, typical of these cultures.

Daejeon City is one of the 6 major cities directly under the Central Government of Korea. It is also a dynamic city with many unique architectural works and artificial parks that attract international tourists. Sejong City is a small city planned to become the administrative center of Korea with most of the headquarters of government agencies, ministries and departments relocated here. In addition, the city also owns national natural parks that are built and preserved with many rare species of flora and fauna. Chungcheongbuk-do Province is famous for its beautiful natural scenery and famous resorts such as Cheongdamdae. Located on the poetic Daecheongho Lake, Cheongdamdae's attractive seasonal scenery has made it a resort destination for many generations of Korean Presidents. If Chungcheongbuk-do Province has Beobjusa Temple, which preserves many national treasures associated with the ancient Silla Dynasty, Chungcheongnam-do Province is home to many cultural features of the Beakje Dynasty of the same era. A typical example of the remaining architectural works to this day is Gongju Gongsanseong Fortress. This fortress has also been recognized by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage along with many other relics of Korea.

The Chungcheong region is also famous for many of the most delicious dishes in Korea. Among them, Kalguksu - a noodle dish with a sweet and cool broth, or braised duck, a specialty dish with a very unique flavor of the region... Originally a resort for many generations of Presidents, the region also has a system of 3-5 star hotels to serve the diverse needs of a large number of tourists.

With the expansion of the subjects eligible for multiple-entry visas to Korea and the simplification of visa application procedures for Vietnamese tourists, which the Korean Embassy in Vietnam and the Korean Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City have applied since July 10, 2017, the number of Vietnamese visitors to Korea is expected to not only maintain its growth momentum but also increase sharply in the following years.

This requires Korean tourism to continuously introduce new tourism products in addition to traditional tourism products to serve the needs of second-time visitors and young visitors who want to explore new destinations, including the Chungcheong region with attractive destinations that will be introduced in the Workshop.
