Located in a remote part of the Aegean Sea, a few kilometers off the Turkish coast, Kastellorizo Island has successfully vaccinated all its residents against Covid-19, including two doses of the Pfizer vaccine.
Kastellorizo Island
There has been only one case of Covid-19 on the island since March last year. The Greek government has tried to protect small islands that do not have large medical facilities by vaccinating all residents.
The islands are part of Greece’s tourism recovery strategy, with all small and remote islands to be protected from Covid-19 to promote the summer tourist season.

Kastellorizo Island, also known as Castelrosso, was chosen as the setting for the film "Mediterraneo" by director Gabriele Salvatores. The film tells the story of a group of Italian soldiers sent to an isolated Greek island during World War II. The film won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film in 1992.
Many travel companies have turned their attention to this unspoiled island. The number of visitors to the island is expected to increase by about 35% this year, according to Ethnos Greece.
The island boasts unspoiled beauty, with piers, seaside villas and turquoise waters.
While Kastellorizo lacks long white sandy beaches, it does have ancient castles and unique caves. As it was once part of the Ottoman Empire, visitors can visit both Greek churches and mosques.
