Kim Jung Hyun is a young Korean artist (born in 1987) who pours her heart and soul into self-portraits, allowing viewers to create their own portraits. Having left Korea at a young age, she faced many difficulties when settling in Ho Chi Minh City. To overcome the feelings of alienation in her life, she began painting self-portraits. These works became a peaceful haven for her soul and a space for connection with others, helping her express the pent-up emotions she had long suppressed due to the language barrier. For the artist, "distance" represents both a gap and a connection between Vietnam and Korea, between the artist and her work, between the artist and her audience, and much more.

The exhibition displays 20 works including oil paintings, woodcuts, silk paintings, etc., all self-portraits by the artist. This young female artist has officially entered the professional art world and does not hesitate to experiment boldly both in terms of expression and in diverse materials. The artist is also always proactive in engaging with the audience.
During the exhibition, the Cultural Center will organize side activities such as a "Talk with the Artist" program (2 PM on January 31, 2015) where the artist will directly accompany the audience on a tour of the exhibition and explain the artwork, and a "Selfie Photo Contest on Social Media" (Selfie photo contest with the artwork).
Through its first exhibition of the new year 2015, the Korean Cultural Center hopes to provide an opportunity for audiences from both countries to appreciate the fresh works of artist Kim Jung Hyun, a young artist who plays a bridging role in Vietnamese and Korean art and culture.
