In April 2018, US-based space technology startup Orion Span announced plans to launch Aurora Station, the world’s first luxury space hotel. Orion Span founder and CEO Frank Bunger outlined the company’s space tourism plans, including the potential for partnerships with tourism industry stakeholders.
Aurora Station has a fairly compact design, with an interior comparable to a Gulfstream jet.
The plan is now moving forward rapidly and Aurora Station will officially open in 2021. The space hotel is quite compact in design, with an interior similar to a Gulfstream jet, and is located in space 322 km above Earth. A year later, in 2022, the first guests will be welcomed to Aurora Station.
A 12-day space trip will cost $9.5 million
The 12-day space tour will cost $9.5 million. A refundable deposit of $80,000 is required and visitors will register online to reserve their spot. They will undergo a short three-month training course in Houston, USA, and receive online certification before officially boarding the spacecraft.

“These trips are quite luxurious, for those who have money. They will have the experience of a real astronaut. Visitors will see 16 spectacular sunrises and sunsets every day, experience the Northern and Southern Auroras. In addition, visitors will participate in research experiments such as growing food while in orbit, participating in virtual reality experiences and weightlessness. During the space trip, visitors will still stay in touch with loved ones at home through high-speed wireless internet access, allowing video streaming and live streaming. We will also provide top-notch space food to our guests with the best service quality,” said Mr. Frank Bunger.
