Press conference for the opening of Flamingo Art Space - Art in the Forest 2017
Flamingo's unique art space
Art In The Forest 2017 promises to showcase the sublime artistry of sculptures crafted from wood and metal, subtly expressing the artists' perspectives on life and the relationship between humanity and nature. With the participation of three prominent contemporary Vietnamese sculptors – Bui Hai Son, Nguyen Nguyen Ha, and Vu Binh Minh – this year's Art In The Forest promises exceptional works by international sculptors: Lee Jae Hyo (Korea), Carlos Albert Andrés (Spain), Yeo Chee Kiong (Singapore), and Mukai Katsumi (Japan). Aside from Mukai, who has already participated with AIF, these three sculptors are participating in a residency program in Vietnam for the first time.
Alongside sculpture, a special highlight this year is the first-ever painting residency program organized by AIF, featuring 10 domestic artists. These artists, their names, and their works have established a significant place in the Vietnamese and Asian art scene. The public will have the opportunity to enjoy paintings by artists Mac Hoang Thuong, Hoang Duong Cam, Nguyen Son, Ha Manh Thang, Nguyen Xuan Long, and the less-seen works of Tuan Mami – one of Vietnam's leading performance artists. Furthermore, the appearance of distinguished guests: artist and art critic Nguyen Quan and artist Nguyen Xuan Tiep will make it difficult for art lovers to predict their audience's preferences. Let's look forward to the "brainchildren" nurtured within the Studio AIF complex nestled amidst the rustling pine forests of Dai Lai, a studio that is itself a work of art created by the whimsical brushstrokes of painter Pham Tuan Tu and hyperrealist painter Trinh Minh Tien. Furthermore, each artist will have to manage the exhibition space within their own studio.
It was a joy and a source of pride for the AIF 2017 residency program to receive the support of the renowned German art supplies company Lukas, after many years of representing them in Vietnam. We warmly welcome the collaboration of individuals and businesses who share a love for art and wish to jointly promote the development of the country's fine arts.
Continuing its commitment to supporting and developing young Vietnamese artists, the Flamingo Foundation – Art In The Forest is sponsoring the lacquer painting exhibition “Invisible Season” by artist Nguyen Tran Cuong this year. The exhibition will open at 5:00 PM on October 22, 2017, at the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum, 66 Nguyen Thai Hoc Street, Hanoi.
First organized in 2015, Art In The Forest immediately made a big impact and became a national-level cultural and artistic event, being selected by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism as one of the Top 5 outstanding art events nationwide in 2016. Furthermore, the 25 unique sculptures from the previous two seasons helped this leading Vietnamese resort successfully establish the record for "Largest lakeside art space resort in Vietnam," certified by the Vietnam Record Holders Association and the Vietnam Record Organization in June 2017.
The impressive milestones mentioned above are a testament to Flamingo Group's dedication and relentless efforts to realize its goal of contributing valuable life and artistic values to the community and becoming a place to preserve and develop the artworks of contemporary Vietnamese and Asian artists.
From October 28th to November 6th, Flamingo Dai Lai Resort will host the AIF 2017 Art Week, featuring tours showcasing unique artworks for visitors and art lovers alike. In addition, numerous East-West cultural activities such as painting classes, Halloween mask decorating workshops, and art performances will also offer visitors a vibrant and engaging experience at Flamingo.
