Opening of the 2022 Gióng Festival at Phù Đổng Temple with many exciting activities

On the evening of May 6, in Phu Dong commune, Gia Lam district, Hanoi, the opening ceremony of the 2022 Phu Dong Temple Giong Festival took place and the decision to recognize "Phu Dong Tourist Destination" was received.

This year's Gióng Festival at Phù Đổng Temple is held for 5 days, from May 6 to 10 at the Phu Đống Temple National Special Relic Site and nearby tourist attractions.

According to the Organizing Committee, within the framework of the Gióng Festival and Phù Đổng Tourism Week 2022, many exciting cultural activities will take place such as: opening of the countryside market at Phù Đổng Green Park; the first Phù Đổng paper flower festival; opening of shopping and dining establishments that meet tourist standards; opening of the OCOP booth; launching the Phù Đổng Gióng Festival Tourism Cooperative; experiencing sightseeing programs at the Phù Đổng Green Park eco-zone; singing Quan họ at the Puppet Pond; performing traditional art forms such as Quan họ, hát chèo, hát tuong; and other tourism promotion and advertising programs.

Many special cultural activities will take place within the framework of this year's Festival.

At the opening ceremony of the Festival (taking place on the evening of May 6), the Phu Dong Temple Relic Site also received the decision to recognize it as a "Phu Dong Tourist Destination".

Phu Dong tourist site includes the entire Phu Dong commune with an area of ​​1,182 hectares, with many resources for tourism development such as: Phu Dong bougainvillea growing village; Green Park historical and cultural relic cluster... In which, the Gióng Temple relic cluster is recognized as a special national relic.

The Giong Festival at Phu Dong Temple is a Battle Festival, initiated and organized by King Ly Cong Uan during the Ly Dynasty; taking place from the 7th to the 9th day of the 4th lunar month every year to recreate the heroic battles of Saint Giong - the son of Phu Dong village, fighting against the northern invaders.

The festival is preserved and passed down essentially intact by the people of Phu Dong from generation to generation; it is a folk theater, taking place in a large space with thousands of main roles being the people; aiming to educate the tradition of patriotism, national pride, and love of peace of the Vietnamese people.

With its great contributions, in 2010, the Gióng Festival at Phù Đổng Temple (Gia Lâm District) together with the Gióng Festival at Sóc Temple (Sóc Sơn District) were recognized by UNESCO as Representative Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
