This year's festival takes place in the La Boca neighborhood, known as the birthplace of the South American country's most famous dance.
As part of the event, over the next two weeks there will be concerts, exhibitions and workshops dedicated to tango. The 12th World Tango Championships will attract 500 couples from all over the world.

The festival also creates a boom for the local tourism industry with an expected 200,000 visitors expected to come to the Argentine capital during the festival.
Tango has become incredibly popular around the world in recent years. In 2009, UNESCO officially recognized the dance as a world cultural heritage.
