First impressions
It only took an hour flight from Ho Chi Minh City for our group to arrive at Phu Cat airport on a clear afternoon. In the gentle sunshine of Quy Nhon, Maia Resort Quy Nhon staff in bright uniforms welcomed us with friendly smiles.
I don’t know the name or remember the appearance of that staff member, but the warm smile and the “strong Central accent” greetings immediately gave us a feeling of closeness and familiarity, like the feeling of someone who has been away for a long time but always feels at peace in the joy of welcoming their loved ones back. In a moment, this seemingly strange coastal city suddenly became close and warm to us right from the first meeting.
In less than 20 minutes by car, we arrived at Maia Resort Quy Nhon. On one side, we saw the green areas of the resort, and on the other side, a giant wind farm and gently sloping sand dunes.
Sophisticated design style with local cultural influences
We chose the Garden Pool Villa room type with a private pool and a green garden surrounding it. Unlike other resorts we have been to with many elaborate details in the room, Maia Resort Quy Nhon aims for a sophisticated and simple style, not fussy but still luxurious and fully equipped.
Instead, each green area is carefully tended and becomes the highlight of the entire resort. Here and there are local details that are subtly combined in the design style. A mural created from the remaining pieces of wood from an old fishing boat, or the exquisitely handcrafted ceramic vases attract our eyes.
During our 2 days in Quy Nhon, we spent one day visiting Ky Co and Eo Gio. From Maia Resort Quy Nhon, it only took us about 15 minutes to reach this famous place. As expected of “the most beautiful sunset viewing spot in Vietnam”, Eo Gio gave us a beautiful photo album as a souvenir. On the second day, we decided to rest at the hotel, simply doing nothing, to enjoy the best of Maia Resort Quy Nhon and recharge our batteries.
Peace is when you can enjoy delicious food
People often say that the shortest way to conquer someone is through… the stomach. Maia Resort Quy Nhon has truly conquered us through its dishes, preparation and presentation that captivated diners. Until now, I can still remember every dish in that dinner at the restaurant Vi. From dishes with a strong Vietnamese flavor but enhanced by sophisticated preparation, to European dishes such as Pizza or Pasta but mixed with a few touches of Vietnamese cuisine, all remind us of "homemade" dishes that are delicious, flavorful and full of emotion.
Marc, the Canadian general manager, appeared at the restaurant and welcomed us with warm gestures. It was just a short conversation, but we could feel his love for Vietnamese cuisine as well as his dedication to creating unique culinary experiences. While introducing the dishes, Marc kept telling us with a passionate and somewhat proud voice: “Everything is freshly made in Quy Nhon and Vietnam” - All dishes are prepared directly from the freshest local ingredients, from the early morning fish markets or hillside farms.
With the dedicated service style, the most affectionate and genuine smiles emanating from each staff and manager here, we feel like we are no longer "guests", but are returning home, being pampered and enjoying the most delicious dishes to our taste.
Vietnam tourism as well as the world is facing many great challenges, but with creative and dedicated tourism methods and especially with love and exquisite culinary experiences, I believe that Maia Resort Quy Nhon, although just launched, will conquer many tourists as a peaceful place to return to.
