Launching the Miss Ocean 2017 competition.

Besides the appearance of Miss Ocean 2014 Dang Thu Thao and first runner-up Le Thi Ha Thu, the press conference also featured representatives from the judging panel including MC and actress Thanh Mai; film actress and businesswoman Ly Nha Ky; businesswoman Thuy Nga; lawyer and "Golden Swallow" Thuy Huong; and many famous stars such as singer Ho Ngoc Ha, supermodel Duc Vinh, Miss Beach Nguyen Thi Loan, fashion designer Ly Qui Khanh, fashion designer Thuan Viet, Le Phuong Anh, Miss Southeast Asia Dieu Han, runner-up Bao Nhu, Khanh Phuong, Phan Ngoc Luan, Hieu Nguyen 9X, Cao Thuy Linh….

Speaking at the press conference, designer Vo Viet Chung – head of the organizing committee – said that although the Miss Ocean pageant is only in its second year, it has received widespread support from the community due to its unique focus on environmental protection. In 2017, the competition will be organized on a larger scale with more practical activities for contestants, aiming to encourage community participation in raising awareness among people, especially the younger generation, about preserving the marine environment along the entire length of Vietnam.

Similar to other beauty pageants in Vietnam, the Miss Ocean pageant organizers do not accept applications from contestants who have undergone cosmetic surgery. Representing the judging panel, lawyer Thuy Huong stated that the organizing committee and judges will work closely and seriously to ensure fair treatment for all contestants.

The judges, including MC and actress Thanh Mai, and businesswoman and film actress Ly Nha Ky, all hope to find a beauty queen worthy of the title, with practical projects for the community, especially in protecting the marine environment, developing the tourism industry, and promoting the image of Vietnam to the international community.

First held in Vietnam in 2014, the Miss Ocean pageant attracted hundreds of contestants from across the country. After several rounds of competition, Dang Thu Thao (born in 1995), a student from Can Tho, won the title of Miss Ocean. The first runner-up was Le Thi Ha Thu (born in 1992) from Hue City, and the second runner-up was Le Thi Van Quynh (born in 1993) from Hanoi. This was in parallel with the selection of an ambassador for the project.Blue Ocean WorldFounded by the Vietnam Environmental Protection Fund (under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment) and Vo Viet Chung Co., Ltd., the competition also serves as a platform to launch, organize, and guide Vietnamese youth towards practical and meaningful activities to protect the marine environment, along with humanitarian initiatives and projects for the community.

Following that success, under the direction of the People's Committee of Binh Thuan province and the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Binh Thuan, the Miss Ocean 2017 competition will officially hold its recruitment from April 1st to September 1st to select outstanding contestants to compete in the semi-finals and finals in Phan Thiet. The final night is expected to be held on the evening of October 27th, broadcast live on VTV9 - Vietnam Television to determine the top winners. Besides the special awards for talent, traditional dress, bikini, photogenic, and blue sea, the Organizing Committee and the judging panel will find worthy winners for the titles of 2nd runner-up, 1st runner-up, and Miss Ocean. The Miss Ocean 2017 winner will receive a crown worth 3.2 billion VND crafted from Royal Pearl pearls, cash and other gifts worth 600 million VND, along with many other valuable gifts.

In recent years, marine environmental pollution has become more alarming than ever, with a series of serious incidents being discovered. The safety of the ocean is being compromised, and many marine species are facing the risk of extinction due to indiscriminate fishing and waste disposal by humans, which is a common concern of the entire society. Therefore, the role and mission of Miss Ocean are even more important and meaningful in this period. Through a series of activities throughout the competition, the organizers hope to call on the community, especially the younger generation, to raise awareness of environmental protection, maintain the balance of the ecosystem, and inspire the entire community with the most practical actions. This is also what distinguishes Miss Ocean from other beauty pageants currently in Vietnam.

According to designer Vo Viet Chung, representing the organizing unit, the Miss Ocean 2017 pageant will be professionally organized in accordance with the regulations set forth by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to find a worthy representative who embodies beauty, intelligence, and has the most effective projects in protecting the marine environment and oceans.

Under the direction of Henri Hubert – a designer with 35 years of experience in the fashion industry across many countries – the Miss Ocean 2017 competition rounds will offer many new and unique elements, on par with international beauty pageants. In particular, the grand finale will take place at the Fisherman Show Theater – the legendary fishing village – the first water music stage in Vietnam, with an investment of up to 50 billion VND, promising spectacular performances for television viewers broadcast live on VTV9.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR MISS OCEAN 2017

- Must be a female Vietnamese citizen aged 18-26 (based on the date of birth on her valid ID card or passport).

- No prior criminal record, not currently under criminal investigation.

- High school diploma or higher

- Has not undergone cosmetic surgery or gender reassignment.

- Height 1.65m or taller, well-proportioned physique.

- Unmarried and childless (including cases where a traditional wedding ceremony has been held or the couple has been living together as husband and wife)

- A resume/CV certified by the local government or the agency/organization where the candidate studies or works.

- Possesses good moral character

- Submit your application according to the competition rules.
