The Young Artists Exhibition 2024, taking place from November 29, 2024 to February 6, 2025 at the Vincom Contemporary Art Center (VCCA), is an international-class art space, providing an opportunity for art lovers to admire creative works. With over 148 works by 121 young artists from across the country, the event presents a rich tapestry of contemporary art. The works utilize various art forms such as painting and installation, each with its own unique style, depicting fresh perspectives on life and society.
This exhibition addresses contemporary life issues from the perspective of young people. The works showcase new creative thinking in the artistic approaches of the artists, reflecting the development of contemporary art forms as well as Vietnamese art in the era of integration. This is also an opportunity for the younger generation of artists to express their talent, creativity, and voice to the public. Through each work, viewers will feel the concerns, passion, and love for art of those who are striving to contribute to building the national art scene.
Breathing new life into "old creations"
After five months of launching and selecting from over 1,050 works by 300 participating artists, the Young Artists' Fine Arts Festival is not only an artistic playground but also a bridge connecting art and the public, creating opportunities for everyone to easily enjoy and understand more about contemporary Vietnamese art. As the writer André Gide once said: "Everything that needed to be said has been said, but because no one listened, it needs to be said again." Young artists have revived ideas that once existed, combining them with a contemporary spirit to create works that are both inherited and groundbreaking.
The works at the exhibition are not simply products of imagination, but also embody the soul and voice of the younger generation. Each piece serves as a bridge connecting the past and the present, tradition and modernity, the individual and the community. The artists skillfully use artistic language to "re-express" familiar philosophies, infusing them with creativity, intellect, and emotion. This not only makes each work unique but also affirms the power of art in promoting cultural development.
The art council selected 148 works by 121 authors for the exhibition, including 27 outstanding works and sets of works that were awarded prizes.
The 2024 Young Artists Exhibition creates a unique art space where the public can enjoy creative works while exploring the profound meanings that contemporary art offers.
Linh (20 years old), a student at the School of Interdisciplinary Sciences and Arts, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, shared her feelings after attending the exhibition: “I was very surprised and excited by the works here. They were presented in an artistic and unconventional way, as if breaking free from all familiar boundaries. Each work evoked a fresh and inspiring feeling, making me feel that art was both accessible and challenging to my imagination.”
The first prize-winning work is "Throughout" by author Pham Thuy Duong.
Linh's sharing partly shows how the exhibition has created a strong connection with young people. Each artwork is the creative achievement of the artist, a way for them to convey a message, opening up new spaces for contemplation for viewers. Bold ideas, unique approaches, and a spirit of daring to break boundaries have evoked genuine emotions and profound reflections on life and society in the audience.
