This year's festival, called ASEAN Pride - Celebrating Diversity, will be held on May 24, 2014, with live music performances and food and drink served throughout the program, in a beautiful open space in the heart of Hanoi: American Club, 19-21 Hai Ba Trung.
The festival will feature renowned bands from ASEAN countries, as well as artists and community groups in Hanoi. With confirmed participation from bands such as Protocol Afro (Indonesia), Big Bag (Myanmar), The Pinholes (Singapore) and Stylish Nonsense (Thailand) as well as many talented Vietnamese artists, the event will be a unique opportunity for audiences to learn about ASEAN Pride and Vietnamese youth culture. The festival will also include the Hanoi Flea Market’s creative art fair, an artist space, and a children’s play area.
In addition to promoting cultural exchange among peoples in the Southeast Asian region, the festival aims to raise awareness of ASEAN Pride. The United States is committed to removing barriers to equality, ending discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity, and engaging the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community. The United States is committed to working to create a brighter future for every individual, including equal rights for the LGBT community. Secretary of State John Kerry has always affirmed that promoting LGBT-related issues abroad is always “at the center” of US efforts. This is an important issue because it affirms basic freedoms – everyone can be proud of who they are, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.
The ASEAN PRIDE Festival will run from 1:00 PM to 12:00 PM on Saturday, May 24.
