The festival aims to honor and preserve the traditional cultural values of the Vietnamese ao dai; to introduce to tourists and the public the image of the Vietnamese ao dai through different periods throughout the history of the Vietnamese nation; and to create an environment for cultural exchange between the public and famous Vietnamese ao dai designers and artisans through unique ao dai art works.
The 2014 Ao Dai Beauty Contest
This event also commemorates the 40th anniversary of the Liberation of Southern Vietnam and the reunification of the country (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2015). The festival features the participation of over 40 organizations, businesses, designers, artisans, and long-standing ao dai brands in Ho Chi Minh City. The opening and closing ceremonies will be held with unique rituals and a spectacular ao dai art performance by young designers, aiming to widely introduce the ao dai festival to tourists nationwide and honor the image of the ao dai – Vietnam's national costume.
In addition, the War Remnants Museum, the Southern Women's Museum, and the Ao Dai Museum will organize many exhibitions and seminars on the theme of Ao Dai, such as: a seminar on "Vietnamese Women's Ao Dai through the Flames of War," a seminar advising on how to wear Ao Dai beautifully, etc. Furthermore, the program includes many side activities such as an Ao Dai drawing contest on paper, a beautiful photo contest, and a graceful Ao Dai contest.
