Dalat cherry blossoms have the scientific name Prunus Cesacoides. The trunk resembles that of a peach or plum tree (belonging to the genus Prunus), but the flowers are single, five-petaled, like apricot blossoms (belonging to the genus Cerasus). Therefore, the name "cherry blossom" (mai anh đào) was given to this flower of Dalat.

At the beginning of the dry season, around November each year, the leaves of the Japanese cherry blossom tree gradually fall off, leaving only bare, slender branches as it enters dormancy. When the seasons change, around mid-January, the tree "awakens," blooming to signal the arrival of spring. The flowers usually bloom simultaneously, densely covering the tree from root to tip, creating a very impressive sight.

Cherry blossoms are the signature flower of Da Lat. Every spring, the cherry blossoms bloom profusely, painting the streets of Da Lat pink, creating a picturesque scene. Walking along a street lined with blooming cherry blossoms feels like being lost in a fairyland, making you want to stay forever and never leave.

As you stroll along the path lined with pink cherry blossoms, the melody of the song "Who Goes to the Land of Cherry Blossoms" plays, bringing an indescribable feeling of exhilaration to both locals and tourists.
"Anyone who goes to the land of cherry blossoms shouldn't forget to bring back a branch of flowers."
Let me stop daydreaming every afternoon, watching the clouds drift far away.
The person who left long ago still leaves a deep longing in my heart.
How many years have passed, yet my soul still lingers?
"At this hour, gazing at the mist and smoke, I secretly dream of the color of flowers on someone's cheeks."

According to local statistics, there are now more than 3,000 cherry trees in the inner city area of Da Lat, mainly concentrated around Xuan Huong Lake and many other streets. In addition, the Cherry Blossom Space Project at the Tuyen Lam Lake National Tourist Area in Da Lat, implemented since 2009, covers an area of over 100 hectares. Of this, 25 hectares were invested by the state and have been planted for about 5 to 6 years, while tourism businesses in the area have also planted about 30 hectares.

The main events of the festival are along the cherry blossom-lined streets of the flower city and the Tuyen Lam Lake tourist area, featuring impressive programs such as: a street festival at the Clay Tunnel; a marathon around Tuyen Lam Lake; a flower-themed food festival at TerraCotta Resort; a golf tournament; a cherry blossom photography contest; a cherry blossom and love music night; and a logo design competition for the Da Lat Cherry Blossom Festival.
