In recent days, metro line 1 Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien has been a "hot hit" name on all social media platforms. Metro Line 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien) officially opened for Ho Chi Minh City residents to experience. This is a long-awaited event, marking a big step forward for the city in developing a modern public transport system.
After nearly a month of testing at 20% of the design capacity, the metro switched to trial operation as commercial exploitation, operating from 5:00 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. every day.
Before the Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien metro line was inaugurated, two other metro lines were also put into operation in Hanoi. But for the people of Ho Chi Minh City, the first metro line is still a special event. Because, like Hanoi, the unique complexities of this system - along with many other reasons - have caused the current metro line to take more than a decade to complete, with many missed deadlines.
Metro Line 1 Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien runs through 14 stations, with a total length of 19.7 km. This is the first urban train line in Vietnam to have underground stations - 3 stations with a total length of 2.6 km. With the advantage of "one line", the train is expected to ensure the need for fast travel, avoiding the sun and rain at a reasonable cost, becoming an indispensable experience for those living and traveling in the city.
The highlight of Ben Thanh station is the 6m high skylight with a diameter of 21.6m, designed in a delicate and beautiful lotus shape. This is where everyone stops to take souvenir photos before boarding the metro train.
With a length of nearly 20 km and 14 stations - including 3 underground stations - Ben Thanh metro is currently the largest and most useful metro line in Vietnam, connecting from the city center to the northern gateway, where there are large construction clusters such as bus stations, schools...
In the final test run of the metro before commercial operation, Ho Chi Minh City residents can register to experience it, starting from Ben Thanh station (District 1). The test run will last until December 21, from 5am to 10pm with about 200 trips per day.
During the trip, the train stops at stations for about 30 seconds to pick up and drop off passengers. With such short stops, passengers need to be ready and quick to get on or off the train.
The conditions for participation are simple: just click “like” and “follow” the HCMC METRO fanpage. However, just a few hours after the announcement, all registration slots were sold out. However, the program will still last until December 21 and there will be a new registration link every day. Many people are waiting to not miss the opportunity to participate in this experience.
Most of the young people who participated were excited to share their positive feelings about the metro line. The train runs smoothly, fast and is extremely modern. In particular, the signs and announcements are very clear and easy to understand, helping first-time users not to be confused.
Metro Line 1 is expected to be commercially operational from December 22, 2024. For the first month, all Ho Chi Minh City residents will be able to experience it for free. This is an important step in improving public transport and enhancing the quality of life in the city.
