During their research on the Pacific Ocean for their film, directors Ron Clements and John Musker had the opportunity to meet local people, and among those they encountered, one conversation left a lasting impression on the filmmakers. Director Clements recalled: “At that time, an elderly man living on Mo’orea Island asked us a simple but profound question: ‘For many years, we have lived in a world where your modern culture has dominated. Isn’t it time for you to immerse yourselves in our culture?’” Because of this, the film crew was determined to best portray the culture and people of the region and bring them closer to the public. And after five years of dedicated work, the film about a Polynesian girl who sails the ocean to fulfill her mission with her family and find herself was born.
It can be said that the film's uniqueness lies not only in Disney's familiar formulas – humor, charm, and profound lessons – but also in its fresh character designs, captivating music, and meaningful message of self-discovery. It seems that in recent years, more and more animated films have featured strong female characters from the Disney family. This suggests that Disney is gradually shifting the image of its gentle princesses towards a fresher and more independent image.

Singer Minh Nhu, who voiced the character Moana, shared: “I am very happy to voice this character because Moana is an extremely brave girl who loves freedom and is ready to fight for those she loves.” Minh Nhu also added that Moana's story and her own story have many similarities. Having lived close to her grandmother since childhood, and having been taught life lessons by her, Minh Nhu understood the special bond between her and her grandmother, thus fully expressing Moana's emotions in each scene.” At the film's premiere, Minh Nhu also performed the theme song "How Far I'll Go" and received a warm reception from the audience.
Currently, the film is receiving very positive reviews from film critics. With a perfect 100% "fresh" rating on Rotten Tomatoes and an 8.3 on IMDb, die-hard Disney fans can certainly hope this will be the next blockbuster that can rival billion-dollar hits like Zootopia or Finding Dory.
Moana's journey is scheduled to be released nationwide on November 25, 2016, in 2D, 3D, and with a Vietnamese dubbed version.
