The prestigious TIME magazine has just announced a list of the 100 most attractive destinations in the world in 2025, including metro line No. 1 Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien of Ho Chi Minh City - the first urban railway line in Vietnam.
According to TIME, the metro line helps visitors easily access famous city attractions such as the City Theater, Nguyen Hue walking street or Bui Vien Western quarter without having to deal with heavy traffic.
Metro Line 1 Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien, Ho Chi Minh City
The Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien metro line being honored by TIME not only demonstrates the development of public transport infrastructure in Vietnam but also contributes to raising the image of Ho Chi Minh City on the world tourism map.
This year's TIME "World's Best Destinations" list includes a wide range of unique destinations around the globe, divided into two categories: places to stay and things to do. TIME selected the locations based on criteria such as innovation, impact, appeal to visitors and operational success.
Besides the Ho Chi Minh City metro line, several other Asian locations are also on the list, such as the Zebun Nessa Mosque (Bangladesh), the Nintendo Uji Museum (Japan), the Beijing Library (China), the Eagle Hunting Culture Center (Mongolia) and the Wangduechhoeling Palace Museum (Bhutan).
Metro Line No. 1 Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien officially operated from December 2024, marking a turning point in the public transport system of Ho Chi Minh City. The line is nearly 20 km long, including 2.6 km underground through the city center and 17.4 km above ground. The line has a total of 14 stations, including 3 underground stations (Ben Thanh, City Theater, Ba Son) and 11 above ground stations, connecting the center of Ho Chi Minh City with the Eastern region, including Thu Duc City and Binh Duong province.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, Ho Chi Minh City plans to extend the Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien line to Binh Chanh district, and at the same time build 11 more metro lines connecting to Can Gio and Cu Chi districts.
