The only vermicelli flower tree in Hanoi is over 300 years old. Every year, around the end of March and the beginning of April, the vermicelli flower trees compete to bloom, this is the time when they bloom most beautifully, dotting a corner of the sky. When the flower clusters turn yellow, it is also the time when the flowers are about to wither.
Bun flower is also known as Bach Hoa or Man Man. People call it Bun flower because it has two characteristic colors: yellow and white; has a pleasant fragrance and when blooming, the pistil has a shape similar to vermicelli. This plant is grown in many places in Vietnam such as Hue, Quang Nam, Ninh Thuan,... but in Hanoi there is only one tree that is hundreds of years old in Dinh Thon village.

This is a beautiful flowering plant, loved by many countries in the world. This plant is now widely distributed in many places such as China, Cambodia, India, Myanmar, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand,... In Vietnam, there are several species of vermicelli plants with the scientific nameCrateva nurvalaandCrateva unilocularis,with similar characteristics to the above species.
The flower tree is also considered a plant close to religion and belief, often planted around communal houses, pagodas,... Vietnam. In the past, Dinh Thon still had a strong village character, with many communal houses and pagodas, so this flower tree was probably planted here.


The rice vermicelli flower tree is a light-loving, fast-growing, moisture-loving plant that can withstand flooding at any time of the year. It produces light, porous wood that can be used for sawing boards and making household items.
In addition, the flower of the tree can be included in the list of short-term economic forest plants for low-lying areas, especially in hydroelectric reservoirs. The fruit of the tree is edible, and in China, the dried fruit is also used in medicine.
