The season of the crape myrtle flowers has returned.

16/04/2022

Every year, as summer approaches, the crape myrtle trees in Dinh Thon village, My Dinh commune, Nam Tu Liem district, Hanoi, burst into bloom, illuminating a whole corner of the sky.

The only ever crape myrtle tree in Hanoi is over 300 years old. Every year, around the end of March and beginning of April, the crape myrtle trees bloom profusely, this being the most beautiful and vibrant time of year, adorning a corner of the sky. When the clusters of flowers turn yellow, it's time for them to wither.

The Bun flower, also known as White flower or Man Man, is so named because of its distinctive yellow and white colors, pleasant fragrance, and the fact that its pistils resemble rice noodles when in bloom. This plant is widely cultivated in several Vietnamese provinces such as Hue, Quang Nam, and Ninh Thuan, but in Hanoi, there is only one single tree, hundreds of years old, located in Dinh Thon village.

Hoa bún còn có tên gọi khác là Bạch hoa hay Màn Màn

This is a beautiful flowering plant, loved in many countries around the world. It is now widely distributed in many places such as China, Cambodia, India, Myanmar, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, etc. In Vietnam, there are several species of this plant with the scientific name...Crateva NurvalaandCrateva unilocularis, with similar characteristics to the species above.

The bougainvillea tree is also considered a plant closely associated with religion and beliefs, and is often planted around temples and pagodas in Vietnam. Dinh Thon, in the past, retained a strong village character, with many temples and pagodas; perhaps this is why the bougainvillea tree was also planted there.

The Bauhinia tree is a light-loving, fast-growing tree that thrives in humid conditions and tolerates flooding at any time of year. Its wood is light and porous, suitable for sawing planks and making household items.

Furthermore, the honeysuckle plant can be included in the list of short-term economic forest crops for lowland areas, especially in hydroelectric reservoir areas. The fruit of the honeysuckle is edible, and in China, the dried fruit is used in medicine.
